Preparing for First Campaign -- Various Questions to Prevent Wasting Time

Hello,

So I've read and read -- then I read some more. I have a lot of things covered (which tracker, which vertical, what sources, landing page ideas, etc) but I wanted to ask some questions hoping some veterans could give me their two cents to potentially save me some time.

In terms of the vertical I want to pursue -- I was thinking adult dating just to get my feet wet. I figure, there's a lot of vagina starved men out there so I could potentially tap into that pie and grab a small piece. That being said, I want to make sure I'm not about to jump into a shark tank where I get rocked by the guys who already are what I aspire to be, one day. Is this a logical vertical to pursue to start?

Are there any other verticals I should consider (no vertical is easy obviously but are there some that are "less intense" for someone who is pretty close to clueless) before launching an adult dating campaign?

Even if I jumped into a sharktank it would still be great experience. I'd make landing pages, try different angles (hone my creativity), get data, etc which is fantastic -- there's really no losing, I just want to pursue a reasonable vertical from the start and not look back thinking "what the hell was I thinking, man, I had no idea what I was getting into" when I finally know how everything works.

I've chosen my tracker, ad networks and I know my traffic sources. I'm assuming I can't really utilize Voluum until I have an offer/traffic going, correct? Please tell me if I'm wrong because I want to invest a hell of a lot of time into becoming a tracking master -- it seems vital to success.

Aside from that, aside from looking at the basics such as vertical/network/tracker/server (not needed for Voluum of course)/angle is there anything else I should specifically be looking into before launching my first campaign? I'd like to have everything lined up without forgetting important components on my first campaign.

It's inevitable I'm going to make mistakes -- who doesn't when they start something new. That being said, the less the better IMO.

I appreciate all input I'm given, greatly. I will also use this thread to post follow up questions in the future so I don't create 5 different threads. I will also be transferring this thread into my 1st journey thread when I launch my first campaign. This is the build up thread so to speak, I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate to start a thread pre-campaign in the campaign section. :3

Hard work and more reading here I come :]

adult dating is like one of the hardest places to start seeing the big fishes are already fighting there. That said, another reason against it would be the fact that many offers are in top tier countries that are so competitive and expensive. Also, you have to have some sort of experience with landing pages as from what I see, it is a defo need for landing pages in adult dating.

If it's gonna be your first ever campaign ever, why not try mobile? There is an awesome guide(the cookbook) already in place, you remove one factor as you can direct link(of course Landing pages do better most times but if you are gonna start learning, why not have a bit more control and less variables that can screw up your learning process?) and also lower payout= low testing budget needed and more info for each dollar, which is awesome for learning.

This was the advice I gave one of my friend who was just starting out and same as you have been reading the forums. Of course I don't know how experienced you are but he did not even know dreamweaver existed and this was what I told him. Haha.. Just some more food, for your thought.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. Just bartended a rave last night (Cosmic Gate if any trance fans read this) and I am invigorated to put in like 14hrs straight

So I've also read the entire mobile cookbook. I have a business education so I try to look at everything I pursue with that business logic. For guys like Mr Green, Ngo, etc I think pursuing mobile makes a ton of sense. They have the testing budget, they can afford to fail a bunch of times before they hit that jackpot and milk that thing until the cow dies from exhaustion. For a noobie -- is it not true that there are more variables that you don't control? From the traffic differences between OS's, models of phone, etc etc, network problems and beyond? I was inclined to think there were more variables in mobile than desktop? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong or reinforce me if I'm right -- right now I only have what I've read in the 8 days I've been here reading.

Let me ask a very general question:

"If you could start today, do your first campaign, knowing everything you know now -- what would you pursue (vertical/traffic source) and why"

I want to see all of the factors that the more experienced people have floating through their head so that I can make more logical decisions and develop a better AM oriented thought process in the future.

You're overthinking.

Just pick anything and launch.

Pick mobile.

Roll a dice and do one of these

iphone 6 sweepstakes, anti virus, vouchers, etc.

Stick with it for at least a month.

Seriously stop posting and go launch a campaign.

Hey man, what the doc said is right, I myself needed to hear that. I've done this before but still consider myself a noob because my budget went to a hospital bill when my son came 3 months early. Now I'm back to where I can afford to put my time, effort and money towards my business. I took a class with Adrian Morrison that cost me $1000 that lasted 3 days. What I respect Adriam Morrison for was that not only did I learn real stuff, they had this promo they were doing to where if you were able to make $1000 within 3 months of taking the course, they would give you your $1000 back. I did it in 34 days. When I sent in my proof to get my check, the lady on the phone told me that out of the 30 something people that took the class, I was the only one that actually made it out of that group. Most of the peopIe in that class were college educated or had a business. They were people who could afford to take the class where I couldn't afford to not take action. I learned so much and was so fired up I started signing up to networks like crazy and found a few things to sell that I couldn't find on affiliate networks to avoid the static of going up against seasoned marketers and actually had a few campaigns that I thought were gonna be trash end up making money. But it wasn't until I actually spent money on a campaign that I knew anything about ROI, tracking and really what it would take to make money and really be a true marketer. It takes action. Yeah a lot of information will always be golden and the framework is ultimately the same and you should keep seeking advice and learning, but don't let yourself get caught up on learning everything before taking the jump because this industry goes in so many directions so fast that what you just spent all that time trying to get ready and do it when you know enough or when the time is right to find out that that worked last week, now not so much. Life is gonna happen and sometimes its expensive. Your here and if you have resources to put towards a campaign, do it and dont doubt yourself. Yeah you might lose some money, but you will have hard data and experience. I believe in you and hope your a success. I'm no expert but I know that even with an education and certificate in whatever, you still will not know as much as the guy that has experience and most of all nuts.
