Hey I'm Richard 24yrold from Ontario and this will be my first campaign since the 6WAMC.
I've decided I would take the approach of choosing 3 converting offers and launching them at the same time, find which one has the most potential and pause the other 2 and pursue the winner.
Traffic source: Go2mobi
Vertical: Utility Apps
Offers: Apus Launcher, Power Clean, Lock Booster
Geos: Indonesia, Turkey
Budget: $20/day per campaign
Bid: AUTO
Angles: battery life boosting, fix full storage, fix full memory, fix slow phone, clean phone, upgrade phone, popular app, etc.
Campaign structure: For Lock Booster and Apus Launcher I decided to do Indonesia first. For Power Clean I decided to do Turkey (I decided this based on looking at conversion % and installs by country data and some guesswork). I duplicated each of the campaigns to an additional exchange in Go2mobi for a total of 6 campaigns to start.
Banners: I got the 3 day free trial for whatrunswhere and looked up my 3 offers. The banners I used were half taken from WRW with very minor changes, and half completely different banners of my own making in photoshop.
Landing pages: Direct Linking for now. During the 6WAMC when I added a landing page it was worse than direct linking for me, I know that landing pages can improve results but they are not my strong point and haven't seen any examples of landing pages in the wild yet either.
Updates: Of the 6 campaigns, 1 of them was completely approved with all creatives approved, 1 of them was approved with only half of the creatives approved, and the other 4 campaigns were rejected entirely. With this development I will focus on the 2 campaigns that did get though the approval. And thankfully they were on the exchange that I would prefer.
Current tasks:
- Get some data and report back in this thread with my stats after day 1.
- Go buy an Android phone to replace my iPhone so I can use it for spying and testing offers, conversion testing etc in the future.
- Go to the Gym
- Read more on STM
- Find some examples of utility app install landing pages
Updates: Only 2 of the original 6 campaigns that I launched got through the go2mobi approval. After $30 spent on each of the 2 campaign, Lock Booster had zero conversions and Apus Launcher had 5 so I decide to pause Lock booster and focus my efforts on Apus in Indonesia and increase the daily budget to gather a bunch of data. Still set to auto bid, and max spend per placement set to $1.20 (4x payout)
Day 1
Conversions: 13
Spend: $79.85
Revenue: $3.90
Net profit/loss: ($75.95)
ROI -95%
Actions I took: I first looked to cut some carriers and remembered that I had already done this when I did Privacy Locks in Indonesia with the 6WAMC. In that campaign I had whitelisted 10 carriers so I took a look and sure enough the carriers that were getting conversions before were the same getting conversions now. I whitelisted these 10 carriers once again in this campaign. I probably should have done this step from the beginning! I think in the future if and when this campaign is making profit after more optimization, I will re-open the carriers up again to see if there are any additional ones to include, but for now sticking with these 10 proven ones.
I blacklisted 18 placements that spent over $1.20 (4x payout) and no conversions.
I did not feel there was enough data to do much more optimizing than that so will wait for more data.
I will continue to cut placements that spend over $1.20 with no conversions in the meantime.
Each of my banners was a different angle and of the 9 banners/angles there was 1 that was a clear winner. I paused the other 8. Now I'm going to create about 10 more banners for this angle and make a few landing pages for this angle as well.
Current tasks:
- Get some more data. Blacklist more placements.
- Make 10 different banners, but using the winning angle and upload.
- Make 3 landing pages and upload.
- I would still like to launch Power Clean so going to make some more banners to launch again in another geo.
- Find some example landing pages for inspiration and make some mobile landing pages.
- Going to start working through the training on codecademy.com because I don't have any coding knowledge yet and I want to know the fundamentals.
- I'm going to check out this Ca$hvertising Summary. Got the pdf version to read in full soon too.
Questions:
- Is there a way to blacklist by OS version? Apus only works for v4.0.3 and up, yet I'm getting ad impressions on people with lower OS versions. Cant seem to blacklist by OS version in go2mobi though.
- Once I get the landing pages done and uploaded, Should I split test all the landing pages + direct linking all at the same time?
Updates: It appears that my blind choosing of what exchange to run on was poor. As you know I'm using Go2mobi, in Indonesia, and the exchange is the Google Adx Exchange. Today I had it set to spend $100 but it was only able to spend $36.97. Would this be a good indication that there is not enough inventory on this exchange in this country to create a campaign with any scaling potential?
Day 2
Conversions: 7
Spend: $36.97
Revenue: $2.10
Net profit/loss: ($34.87)
ROI -94%
Actions I took:
- Black listed some more placements
- made some more banners but waiting on approval
- In the meantime
Current tasks:
- Same as before really, get these banners and LPs approved and uploaded, get more data
Questions:
1. Based on the stats from the past 2 days and the fact that the campaign was not even able to spend over $37 even though I had it set to spend $100.... Does that mean that this campaign on this exchange in this country isn't very promising from this initial data?
2. If I select "Google Adx" exchange does this give me access to the admob/doubleclick inventory or completely different??
3. At what point do you know a campaign is not worth pursuing? I would like to do something that has the POTENTIAL to turn do at least $100/day.
Go2mobi provided a spreadsheet of volume per country/exchange I believe, you should consult that.
In Indonesia I think smaato had a lot then mopub and Rubicon had some. Others were a waste of time.
I'd recommend showing us some of your actual angles/banners here... For all we know your angles may be really weak, even if half are ripped from WRW.
Thank you, I definitely choose the wrong exchange for my geo and go2mobi hasn't delivered any impressions in the last 12 hours so I am pausing and will re-launch on a better exchange.
Google Adx has a TON of volume in every geo. You should be able to spend $500/day in Indonesia without trying too hard. You just need to bid high enough and make sure your banners are 110% clean.
In theory its the same traffic as you can buy on Adwords - the difference is that you buy CPM and it seems to be lower priority resulting in much lower CTR's. Buying CPC on Adwords is definitely cheaper and has a lot more volume because it has access to text ads which makes up a large % of the inventory even on App traffic
Update:
March 25
Conversions: 45
Spend: $99.72
Revenue: $9.06
Net profit/loss: (90.66)
ROI:-91%

- Discovered that Power Clean was doing better for Indonesia as well. Will be running Power Clean on both geos now.
- Black listed some placements spending 4x payout.
- Raised my bid on a couple carrier/placements combos to get more impressions on them.
- Lowered my daily budget to $20 per day while I make a bunch of banners with new angles to throw into the mix.
