How Does Diply and LittleThings Do It?

Hey Guys,
Lately I’ve been putting a lot of thought into some possible next level strategies that some of the largest Facebook Ads players are using on the web for their viral content sites. I’m curious to hear your insights.

#1 Diply.com
Site ranks #365 in the world. Gets 78% of its traffic from Facebook. What’s interesting is its growth rate, it recently surpassed Pinterest to be the fastest growing website on the Internet. They are similar to BuzzFeed.com in that they just do a bunch of lists and other viral content.

#2 LittleThings.com
Site ranks #1,399 in the world but what’s really interesting is it did not even exist before August 2014.

Now, obviously a big part of their strategies will be researching the most viral content possible and publishing a lot of it daily. Let’s skip over that part of their strategy.

Once you have a killer piece of content and it’s time to run some ads to it, what do you think they do?

My thinking is that they must use massive Facebook lookalike audiences and do PPE or CPC ads to their link posts and just do split testing and adjust targeting etc. They also might use conversion pixels on people when they share something from their website, and then bid for conversions. My guess is they end up paying something like 1-3 cents per visitor (different for each geo). Probably retargeting users that shared + users that clicked the ads as well.

I would think the way they grow those massive Facebook Pages are in large part from running so much money in ads each day.

Curious to hear your guys’ opinions on this!

Bump. I'm in digital publishing and would love to know how they did this. Your right. It's like these sites came out of nowhere. Anyone know anything about how they did this?

It's actually very clever how they do it. I've worked with Diply and know someone who has worked with Little Things.

So I run a site in the DIY market. One day I linked to Diply and sent a few thousand clicks. A few days later I was approached by them and asked if I'd like to send them more traffic and get paid for it. I think it started at $3 per 1000 clicks and has since risen to $5. It's not a great deal, but since I was going to send them traffic anyway it was nice to have a bit of bonus revenue from them. It works out to an extra $400 or so income per month.

I've also seen some pretty massive Facebook pages sharing Diply posts with their tracking links.

I have't worked with Little Things but heard they do exactly the same.

I suppose if you know you are going to make $10 from 1000 visitors, you can afford to pay $5 to obtain them.
