My apologies if this has been answered before (i'd bet it has been a few times), but I've been searching through the forums and can't find anything specifically about the why on this one.
Have a question about landing pages. I've read time and again on this site, and heard from affiliate managers, that LP's are the way to go. Just trying to understand why because, with all due respect to the affiliate community, most of the landing page designs I've been seeing would make me click away in a heartbeat. I can understand crappy looking banners standing out to the user's eye, but the concept of anything that isn't oozing with trustworthiness when it comes to a customer actually paying for something is a foreign concept to me. But obviously.....they work.
As I'm designing my first ones, i'm trying to understand the reasoning behind them. In terms of higher conversions, why do these work better than simply directly linking to the more professional, legit looking websites? What is the user psychology that leads to the higher conversions?
