Hello!
So, first and foremost, my goal with my time on STM is to learn the ropes as an affiliate. My experience is in developing brands, this is my first time working on any side of the affiliate industry. Following the guides and reading as many of your posts as possible.
That being said, I've been working on a (pretty awesome) product within the fitness vertical that I'll be launching on one or more networks in the coming months. While I'm learning the ropes on this side of the fence and waiting on everything with our product to be finished up, I figured I could kill two birds with one stone and start testing other companies' health and fitness products on various sources. Get some data, improve my approach for my own product, maybe even be lucky enough to eventually make money as an affiliate :-)
My questions are:
1) Does anyone know of any good affiliate networks that have promising workout programs to test with? (*programs meaning similar to P90x, Insanity, etc). The ones on ClickBank seem pretty crappy, scammy. Horrible landing pages. Haven't seen any at all on CJ. I've applied to a few affiliate sites, but am still waiting on approval, so I don't know what they have. Would love to know which networks to focus on working with as an affiliate.
2) I'd initially planned to do all of my testing through adult traffic sources, but am not seeing -any- workout programs promoted on them (based on about 100 refreshes, which resulted in seeing a few too many penises for my taste, haha). Is the intent just not there on adult traffic? What would the most promising type of traffic source be?
3) For people who have launched products before on the networks, do you have any recommendations for things I should focus on testing, playing around with before we launch ours? Is it helpful to build relationships with affiliate managers before we launch on the other side, or will I be working with completely different product managers when that time comes?
Thanks in advance for any feedback. After spending about 6 hours reading through this forum, this is clearly a complicated craft!
1) I'm pretty sure CJ in the UK has p90x and stuff I've used them before or affiliate window (UK).
2) Just curious why you would target adult sites for fitness programs? It's an interesting angle but wouldn't it be better using Facebook and really target a certain segment?
Ps I'm new to this game, recently joined and I'm in the fitness niche and can't really find anything related to it in here... would be interesting for more guys in the fitness niche to come together with advice and strategies.
Thanks for the suggestion on UK CJ! The testing in adult is based on the price point and demographic of the traffic. Male 'enhancement' products seem to do well in that space, so my thinking is fitness / getting in shape isn't too far off.
The demographic may be fine but the intent of adult traffic is usually extremely low.
That being said, fitness/muscle offers get run on virtually every traffic source because they appeal to one of the quite general desires of the populous (self-improvement, increasing social standing, attractiveness, health & well-being, getting laid, etc.).
Adult traffic is certainly a cheap way to start testing your offer but it may not be the best thing to begin with. Given the high priced nature of fitness products they generally require a lot of testing and a well-tuned funnel, so you may get better results by doing a JV with someone who already has a hungry list so that you can optimise the funnel using prospects that you know are in the right demographic.
