hi All,
I have tried to launch 1 campaign per week for the past few weeks. My biggest 'success' was a direct link campaign of Apus launcher in the UK (11 conversions) however still -70% ROI.
I spoke to my AM at F5 and clickdealer and asked them to recommend the top performing app installs (android). I followed the cookbook and I am just having no luck at all. Not even prospecting to see if something is worth while! I currently have another campaign up (UC browser India/Indonesia) and would really appreciate some feedback about what I can do to make it work.
Overall:
Network: F5 and Avazu (split test)
Lps: Direct link
Tracker:
India:

Total Spend: $5
Conversions: 0
ROI: -100%
CTR: 1.5%
method: direct link to play store
Traffic source: Decisive.
angle: Cricket scores on your mobile phone
( to test I uploaded the Decisive blacklist top 100 placements, so these are automatically blacklisted)
Indonesia:

Total spend: $16
conversions: 0
ROI -100%
CTR: 1.8%
method: direct link to play store
Traffic source Tapit
angle: Browser makes your internet faster
I am constantly getting stuck at this point. The CTRs are o...k (nothing incredible), but the only campaign that I have managed to get a conversion for is apus. I am just so confused right now about what to do. I keep telling myself DO NOT change from mobile make sure I master it, and I am making sure I launch a campaign per week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hm - how many campaigns have you launched so far, how many offers have you tested, and how many angles per offer?
You might just be getting some bad luck, or there might be something else wrong. Let us know those numbers and we can advise you more.
You paused the India campaign pretty early - $5 spend - why was that?
hi Caurmen ,
thanks - and appreciate the response.
I test 2 angles per offer.
The offers that I have tried are:
Duboost Brazil
360 Security (UK, Canada, US)
Buscape (Brazil) - no conversions
Lovoo (Germany) ( 1 conversion)
Apus (UK)
It could be that I am being unlucky.
I did notice something, I logged into my Avazu stats to see UC ID campaign and there were 9 conversions. but nothing showing in
back to the grind, I smell a turn of the tide :S
Maybe try more obscure countries, you're hitting the most popular ones (read: most competitive).
I see you're from Israel, maybe try that, since knowing Hebrew can be an advantage. You won't get huge volume, but at this point you just need some success and progress.
@ walt_white, yes you are correct, I just logged into Avazu up 12 conversions on UC! from indonesia, so I guess I am trying to run before i can walk and tier 3s it is from now on!
problem is not seeing it in

I have removed
&payout=[conversion revenue] from the Avazu postback pixel to see if it makes a difference, otherwise any suggestions?
just a quick update:
fixed the tracking problem, the above seemed to resolve the issue.
@walter_white, you are 100% right, I was too optimistic diving in for the big geos straight off the bat, I am starting at t3 and will work my way up.
up to 14 conversions now. still at -80% ROI however I am not bothered about that at the moment its about the learning. Have started to trim the fat off. i.e. placements that have used x3 of the offer.
I have replaced the banners with gif images that rotate as tapit seem to be pretty flexible with what I can show.
total spend: $28
total earnings: $4.68
ROI: -83.5%
conversions: 14
Some questions:
a)I noticed in the avazu stats a breakdown of device etc... at 14 conversions i trimmed it to the devices that converted, is it too early to be doing this?
b) tapit I set ad to show impressions throughout the day as oppose to as quickly as possible, however tapit seems to be burning through the daily budget very fast, is there a way to limit this?
c)bidding CPM. minimum is .15 , currently I am paying .17, how to I find the 'sweet' spot on tapit?
thanks
Nice work man, having conversions to work with is a wonderful thing.
a) it depends how clustered the conversions are, if its 1 or 2 devices with all the conversions and other devices got similar amounts of traffic and no conversions I might do what you're doing. But if not I'd clone the campaign and just target those devices in the new one with a higher bid and then block those devices from the original campaign and let it run to get more data
b) I haven't used tap it, do they have frequency capping? Reach out to their support and find out what levers you have to play with volume, besides bids
c) test it and note what happens to volume and your income when you test different bids, doing it incrementally works
HI Walt_white,
thanks for the on going help!
b) no they don't have frequency capping, I spoke with their support, they said that becuase my budget was so low it is hard for them to spread things out evenly, which kind of makes sense I suppose?!
Another thing that I believe will help: Improve your banners with attention-grabbing images.
Finding good images is always one of my top priorities when making banners, because they can really help to draw the visitor's attention to the ad. As many experienced stackers have mentioned in countless threads: images of women's faces work well. So do weird "wtf" type images. Just need to make sure they are big enough and clear enough to draw attention from a glance out of the corner of the eye - which can be a challenge with the typical 320x50 ad.
Another suggestion: At least in the initial batch of banners, use "safe" colors such as black/red/blue text on white background or white text on black background. Some of your banners have text that is blending into the background - e.g. Darker blue against lighter blue, or black on grey...makes the text harder to read. Remember: banners don't need to look good (in fact, I find that the best converting ones don't) - they just need to draw attention and deliver a powerful message that is easy to read at a glance. Once you find some image + headline combos that perform well consistently, THEN mess around with stuff like colors and fonts etc.
Final suggestion: try to come up with more angles that you think will appeal to the general audience. The cricket angle and associated headlines look pretty good (kudos on researching and finding out how popular cricket is in India! I never knew that.). So just come up with at least several more.
Hang in there! If you launch enough campaigns you will eventually find something profitable. Take it from a fellow newbie.
. Best of luck!
Amy
