From Facebook to Mobile (12)

From Facebook to Mobile

Hey All,

Little background about myself. Started AM a while ago trying out different things. Someone introduced me to Facebook advertising (diet/skin) and I instantly saw the money coming in.

As time passed, accounts got harder to get approved and I had to stop and think if this is what I wanted to keep doing. I noticed I was doing more account priming/growing than actual split testing, creating new angles (the actual advertising part) - it wasn't fun anymore.

I decided to move into mobile. I see a lot of opportunity and hopefully achieve the same type of profit I found in FB.

I'll try to keep this as transparent as possible and hopefully get some help along the way!

Campaign 1
Offer: Win Voucher
Payout: $3.40
Traffic Source: inMobi
Tracking: Voluum

Created 4 campaigns (wifi/app, wifi/site, carr/app, carr/site) on inMobi based on my first angle

10 ads - 1 lander. Not direct linking because I asked my AMs if I should directlink or prelander - they all said to use a prelander.

Waiting for approval now.

In the meantime, I'm creating ads and a lander for my 2nd angle.

Could you share something about your angles?

@reddyy I have 2 angles goin on right now

Angle 1 - Starving Students
- college students find crazy way to eat on a budget
- eat like a king while on a budget
- how college students are eating better than the rich
(not exactly the same copy, but you get the idea)

Angle 2 - Unemployed
No money for food? Let us help
Just got fired? Let us help with your groceries
Grocery giveaway for the unemployed
(not exactly the same copy, but you get the idea)

My ads have been rejected from inmobi and go2mobi, but adiquity approved them and it's pending on tapit. Problem with adiquity is that I can't split app and site placements - if anyone knows how to I'm open to hear suggestion.

Hah - that first angle's great. Find an appropriate set of placements and it should do well!

(Probably. )

Thanks caurmen! Appreciate that.

Yeah that's what Im having problems with.

UPDATE #1
Spend: $10
Rev: $0
Profit: -$10

I had to stop my AdIquity campaign. Voluum wasn't tracking the individual creatives so I didn't know which creative was converting.

I figured if I used a custom variable in Voluum, I could just manually change the string to reflect each creative - unfortunately it's showing up as unknown. Gotta figure that out.

Update #2
- Inmobi, go2mobi rejected my landers so I decided to stick to TapIt
- Setup both Angles on tapit (10 ads - 2 landers - 2 offers / per campaign) for a total of 8 campaigns
- I initially set the bid to 0.61 CPM but noticed that it was taking forever to get any actionable data so I decided to up the CPM to $1.00

In the meantime, i'm creating a 3rd angle for this Grocery voucher Campaign. After some research, I noticed this country has decent MasterChef interest.

Angle 3 - MasterChef
- be the next masterchef
- do you have what it takes to be a masterchef
- cook like a masterchef

I just don't know if I can use brand names like that - anyone know?

LESSONS LEARNED
- if I want actionable data fast, just spend the money upfront instead of waiting days

Love this angle ^^
I agree with caurmen, it has to (might) work!

Good luck glennstacks, it sounds like you're off to a good start. I am also a former FB guy who switched over to mobile last year. Anyone who talked to me at ASW last year heard me saying this exact thing!

The time and stress involved with maintaining FB accounts can take its toll on you. There's plenty of money to be made in mobile and there's plenty of traffic sources that want your business.

Keep the updates coming.

thanks doppelganger! that's what i needed

it's that type of motivation that makes follow alongs worth while.. although it helps you track your progress, you get a sense of comradery on what feels like an individual road..

Traffic from TapIt is going slow.

I'm going to take caurmen's advice on the placement and find a different traffic source.

I've done some research and it seems like for this type of offer/vertical, I should try pop/redirect traffic.

I don't think i've reached statistical significance with my Angles so I'll transfer it to a pop traffic source and test there.

I spoke to my AM and they're ok with my 3rd Angle (masterchef). I'll test all 3 angles with 2 banners each and see how that goes.

Campaign #1 - not looking good lol

Since Zeropark only had sites to target (instead of app/sites), I split the campaigns between pop and redirect (wifi/carr).

TOTAL SPEND: $100
REV: $0
PROFIT: -$100

Not a single conversion. I think I should have ended this campaign a while ago and moved to a different offer. What are your guys' thoughts?

I did learn a lot from ZeroPark. For sweeps I think I'll continue with Pop traffic, this will help me solely focus on my landers and angles.

Next campaign: Another Gift Card

Traffic Source: Zeropark
Payout: $1.70

Doing some angle brainstorming - stay tuned for more.

Did you figure that out? What was the token you use - "cid"?
