(stupid question?) Editing landing page AFTER ad has been approved …

For many of you, this question might sound super stupid … but I really have no clue.

I’ve never encountered this in my 5 years of FB advertising (can’t find an answer on Google).

QUESTION:

-You upload an ad on FB
-You wait for approval.
-Then you edit the landing page (without changing the URL of course).

Does FB have a way of detecting this?

Thanks in advance!!!

Actually that's a pretty good question. Would love to hear comments

This is basically the same thing as bait & switch. Remember, a reviewer will come back multiple times to check your landing page. So unless you have a programmatic way of them not seeing the lander you want to run, it would be a easy way to get your account banned. Just my 2 cents though...

@riverdog, thanks for your 2 cents. really. Them reviewing a landing page multiple times ....is very hard to imagine.

With the risk of stating the obvious; you can't promote a diet book in the ad, let FB approve a diet book lander and ....after edit the lander to a pin submit while visitors expect a diet book.

But ... knowing how to play this issue can open some "doors"

I don't have any experience with this, but bots could easily index the code of the page and notify a manual facebook worker if there are any changes.
I doubt it's so easy to fool Facebook. You could of course using cloaking but that's a whole other game then...

Thanks Kevin! But those bots would be really busy if you split tested 100 landing page variations :-)

even if you tested 100 pages, a bot would still report back that the page has changed from the initally submitted one. doesnt matter how many times it has changed, it has still changed is the point.

this can EASILY be done by a simple script to detect if the contents of the page have changed. now, whether facebook checks this or not i dont know, but it is definitely 100% possible to do if they wanted to, its a very basic script that anyone could write in just a few minutes to accomplish this.

franco.. manual reviews get done all the time including scripts and bots.

if it were that easy to bait and switch, why would the need of cloaking be useful?

I can tell you they do look at the HTML, but redirects are the biggest concern by far....there are ways to shield content once approved of course...but it for sure falls under "cloaking"....

We are talking about WH here.

Actually I do that all the time. We usually modify calls to action, images, text, etc. Never had problem. My theory is that as long a the page remains compliant, FB won't punish you.

However, if you plan to change the page and in the process you include some of the things that FB traditionally doesn't like, there is a chance that they will suspend the ad or ban you.

You can modify it. They come back and check though. What you need to get is GEO REDIRECT. They will check your ad from USA to start with, if they see it's legitimate they won't re-check with server from offer country.

You can download GEO redirect here - http://googs.com.au/GEO.zip

They won't be able to see the GEO redirect if you hide the php file and also hide the reference to it. Put this as your 'tracking' redirect so they won't get suspicious.
