I have been a mailer for 3 years now and generated about 750k in revenue for 2014 mailing from my own servers and sending out millions of emails/day. I am looking to scale much bigger in 2015 and so far have gotten off to a very good start. After reading many threads, it seems I shouldn't be focusing on affiliate offers and instead make direct partnerships with companies that can pay much more for targeted lists/traffic. This makes a lot of sense to me, as this is how I started out with mailing. Many years ago, before can spam law, I was a mortgage broker, and would send out about 20k emails that were scraped from school and university websites in my city. I would offer them "Special Mortgage Programs for Teachers", and they would bite. These 20k emails would usually generate me 10-15 leads, and i'd close 2-3, netting me $10k+ each time I sent.
Seems like nowadays I am not getting optimal returns for my efforts, as sending 20k is lucky to make me $100 from affiliate offers. I currently have a bulk mail operation that delivers about 50mm emails per day, and an inboxing operation that is delivering 300k/day and growing.
I am expert in inboxing and delivery. If you are an expert in monetization, and can produce a similar result to the mortgage broker example I gave, please respond to thread or PM me as I'd be very interested in working together.
What verticals are your lists in? Do you have a relationship with these lists?
That angle you took on mortgages is very clever I like that.
I do bulk email too, i know of various monetization methods other than CPA. There are some pay per click networks and automated solutions that are pay per click, but i think those may be the opposite direction you are trying to move.
Are you talking about siphoning people off to autoresponders? That's something I've been wanting to do but am usually so buried with tech work i can't work on extensive copy. I'm working on getting that direction once my team is refined though. But if you could partner up with more targeted email lists to feed your users into their autoresponders that could work really well. Email leads tend to be high quality, especially for email follow up I'd imagine as that is where you acquired the lead.
Having your hand in the entire flow or being in more a revshare type situation could be much more lucrative as you probably saw with mortgage offers. ie- call centers for insurance, mortgage, payday and so on. I'm no expert or even involved on this side of the business but I know ALL advertisers love da email traffic so if you can work out a more intimate relationship with a few of them I'm sure it would pay dividends. Problem is you get these advertisers that scrub at the network level and it drives down your potential payout per lead MASSIVELY.
Mailing at that kind of volume you should be able to cut out networks completely and even advertisers, at the very least the more shady shave happy affiliate industry like advertisers. At the end of the day you want to work to cut out the middlemen. And engaged/targeted email leads are worth a alot so i'm sure plenty of people would be happy to get more intimate than affiliate style partnerships.
Hey dal thanks for the great tips. Going direct with some advertisers has definitely helped. I have seen big improvements on epc's when going direct. As far as autoresponders goes, this definitely seems the way we should be going. The biggest mailers doing 7+ figures I've met all have some targeted feed and mail their autoresponder sequence. I'll hit you up on skype as we've already met in MailerMeetup in Vegas!
I read an article on another forum about a guy having a lot of success with nutra using an autoresponder. It potentially could work in any niche because its applications are limitless. As long as it's not abused, I would imagine after a user sends an initial email that sending a reply will inbox nearly 100% of the time, no?
I've had success partnering with Insurance agents on a rev-share agreement. Send me a PM if you're interested in more information. I'd be curious to hear more about your bulk email operation. Sounds impressive. I'm currently sending roughly 2MM per day.
Hi Kiladen
there are many benefits of working with direct advertisers as there are many benefits working with networks, eventually you decide what is the best for you in sense of revenues and stability.
we @ affiliaXe have seen great results with our mailers affiliate and we have set many different campaigns that allow emails and many offers specificaly allowing only email promotion.
there are many different verticals that can work very well with emails such as Finance/health/eCommerce and others.
PM me for more information and I would love to share it with you
If you have intl lists write me pm with your skype, I can help you to improve.
