Looking For Detailed Step-By-Step to SUBIDs

Hi,

I've read a bunch of posts and articles online about SubIDs, what they are, how they work, how to do them...

To be honest, none of them answered all my questions.

The best of them tell you how to set them up - but not HOW THEY WORK.

I'm one of those sad INTJ's of the Jungian world who needs to understand how an engine works before I feel fully comfortable driving the car. It's an illness but there it is. I was a fully competent designer using Dreamweaver - but still had to train myself in html, css and a bunch of web technologies before I felt comfortable designing people's sites.

And so this SubID thing just nags at me every time I set one up because I don't know what the principles at work are. How adding this code in brackets to a URL is parsed and transfered at the tracker and network.

If anyone knows a book, ebook or site where details of this kind of thing are described, I'd love to see some links or recommendations.

And yes, I know someone may drop by and say something like 'dude, you don't need to know that, just plug em in and use em'... I know. I know.
But I do...

Have you read http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...-Read-This-Now ? That should explain what the little blighters are and how they work.

Let me know if you're still confused after reading that!

Hey, you're my new hero!

Not read it fully yet - just parsed it quickly - but that looks like the most detailed post/article I've seen yet so I'm very hopeful.
Trying to set up campaigns just now so I'll sit down later and take notes.

Thank you!

If I see you at the London meetup I'll buy you one of those free drinks!
