Dead Cats Bounce - Adult Follow Along

After kicking the tires of affiliate marketing with POF, I'm keen to sink my teeth into a source with a bit more volume. Looks good!

My top tip for getting into adult: niche down hard. The big placements are hyper-competitive in ways that a new entrant will find hard to beat - but there are plenty of pockets of profit, to use Finch's phrase, out there.

I saw how hard you worked to find success on POF so I'm sure this will be a very exciting follow-along. Good luck man!

What types of niche offers you going with; Milfs/BBW/Locals etc...
I'll follow this journey too, good luck buddy.

All of the above, planning to try and work my way through all the top categories and hopefully find a winner.

I've noticed that most the currently running banners dont seem to call out the country, so starting with something like *canadian* milfs or similar could give me a slight edge. Effort, but it's work I know is needed

Good thinking mate! Its exactly that type of thinking that will put you ahead of the saturated crowd. I too have put some angles together and will start my first adult campaign in the next day or two. Instead of jumping in head first I've spent time researching Ad copy's and angles. Good luck again!

Ripped 30 towers, footers and squares from xvideos and ran them through a compression tool so they are not picked up as dupes. Popped them in and quite a few got denied. Going to stick with these for the first few days so I can get a feel for how things work and what styles work best.

Ripped 3 landing pages and got them uploaded, need to find more for my niche

Tied it all together in Voluum

......

Casting: 0.9%

... going to be a long night

I ran overnight with my jacked banners and landers to US traffic. It's clear that one of the landers isnt pulling it's weight so I'm going to pause and find a few others to switch in. Overall it looks somewhat promising on this campaign, lots of potential in the landers to improve on the images and copy.

At the back of mind I'm a little worried that there are some issues with rackspace cloudfiles, wont the timestamp from Voluum bust the cache?

02-19-2015 11:34 AM #11 caurmen (Administrator)

Heh, yeah, that's a reasonably clear split-test on the third lander

A little bit of green right off the bat - nice one.

Cache-busting - can you check your analytics in Rackspace or alternatively your log files on your home server? That should fairly rapidly tell you if you've got a problem.

With cloudfiles there isn't anything in the way of logs available. Going to split test against my vps and BH CDN and see if it throws up any differences. Definitely seen my pof stuff take a hit since moving it all over.

Bump on this!

Is pretty critical for those of us running on Rackspace Cloud Files to discover whether Voluum tracking URLs do indeed cause the cache to reload.

I'm gonna jump on tech support with them in a bit and see whether query parameters do indeed force a reload or not.

Hm, that's a real pain. No logging makes things ... tricky.

Let us know how the split test goes - and prof, very interested to hear the results from your chat with support there.

Im curious as well.

Could you share results by mobile device type. Watch closely iPads performance because it could eat your profit

I ran a test on my POF traffic, three different campaigns with the same lander on both a Beyond Hosting VPS and Rackspace. 300 clicks to each. On all three the BH lander performed better by around 2% (5.5 vs 3.5 roughly) which is the difference in profitability for me.

I know on MaxCDN they have a preferences option to ignore url parameters, so have a hunch that with cloudfiles it's requesting the html webpage anew each time as the click id's etc are different.

Not exactly a thorough test, but it's enough for me to ditch rackspace for now until proven otherwise

You: When using Cloud Files is it possible / does the CDN by default ignore URL parameters?
You: i.e. if you CNAME to a domain so you have a static website with the address http://domain.com
You: If there was an incoming link to that site which passed on paramters would the page load from the cache?
You: i.e http://domain.com/?s=12345
Rackspace: http://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_c...iles-container this should help you with the answers you are needing.
Rackspace: It will be the http://domain.com
You: No that's not my question.
You: I mean.. What if somebody linked to my page and passed on a url parameter.
You: i.e Somebody links to my site like http://domain.com/?referredby=tom
You: Would that cause the page to reload or would it be served from the cache
Rackspace: would be served from cache.
You: 100%?
Rackspace: From what I was last told yes
You: Because some CDNs explicitly allow you to ignore such URL parameters
You: But there is no option for this with Cloud Files static sites.
You: So it would be good to get an absolute definite.
Rackspace: What I would suggest is to create a ticket for our cloud files team and they would be able to get you a definite answer. Although from what i was last told that should be correct.
You: Can you forward this chat to them and get them to email me?
Rackspace: No problem, ill create a ticket.
I'll keep you posted as soon as hear anything but it doesn't sound like they're particularly sure themselves.

MaxCDN has a nice checkbox to control this feature, going to shift over to them
