Hey all
My name is David and I joined this forum last week (check my Introduction). When I saw this contest Friday I already had a MMORPG offer going on Facebook and it went quite well (393 USD profit) but it reached the cap so I decided to participate in this contest with a different offer. I was out most of this weekend so I hope it isn't a problem I'm submitting this entry today.
So a few weeks ago I started to promote some MMORPGs. Not because I'm a gamer but because I assumed these kind of offers would convert well on FB ads and it's relatively easy to get targeted traffic. For this contest I will promote a different game for a different country to keep it fair to the other contestants.
The offer
I picked Prius (not to be confused with those hideous cars) from COPEAC because it is open to many countries and the payout is ok: USD 1.75
Targeting
The first thing I did was look for a list of MMORPGs on Wikipedia. I entered all these games as Interests for my ad (country doesn't matter yet). I think it was about 100 games so it took a while to do this.
In order to choose a country I made the following analysis (I'm an Excel geek):
In the first column I listed every country that's allowed for this game (47 in total).
In the second column I entered the reach for each country based on the Interests I gathered from Wikipedia.
In the third column I put Facebook's suggested CPC for that country / audience.
The purpose of this analysis is to get a combination of the largest reach and the lowest CPC. At 0.11 CPC and 324,000 reach Turkey was the clear winner.
I decided to start broad and target everyone regardless of gender and age. I looked at the review of Prius on MMOHUT.com to get a sense of what this game is about, and what its unique selling points are.
Ads
FB doesn't allow autoplay videos, so I cloaked to the MMOHUT review. I don't want their domain in my ad (a company once treathened to sue me for that!) so I iframed the review on one of my own domains.
I just googled for a general MMO term and for Prius specifically (the terms don't mention anything about ingame images only). I then created three totally different kind of ads to see what works best (see attachments).
So the first ad mentions great graphics and what this game is about + two cute girls standing in front of some kind of Prius advertisement.
The second says it is better than World of Warcraft + 2 advantages + image of some of the characters of the game.
The third ad doesn't mention the game and is used to trigger curiousity (and clicks --> so CPC). I just put a big red question mark in there because I believe it stands out.
I will post the ad performance daily.
Thanks for reading + contributing!

Reach: 324,000
Fortunally all ads were approved within hours. The first and second ad had horible CTRs (0.031%). The second one was ok (0.107%) but not really spectacular. The first ad has a CPC of .10 and the third one 0.05. I don't get this because they have similar CPCs and the exact same audience. I killed off the first ad but decided to let the third one go because of it's low CPC.
Conversion was pretty good. The first ad didn't convert, the third ad converted to 1 lead, and the second to 20 leads and 50% ROI. Not to happy about the conversion rate though. Check the attachments.
Based upon the stuff I learned here about getting a great CTR I decided to create another ad with a bit more sexy image. See attachment.
Did you considered to translate the ads into turkish? Might be increase the conversion rate as well as conversions a lot. Beside that, good luck and keep us posted.
Hey I saw that ad... I wish to click on it.....you sure know how to make game offers convert, keep going

My new ad hasn't been approved yet, don't know why it takes so long. I really don't understand why sometimes it takes minutes and other times it takes more than a day! And I really need it to get approved fast because the CTR of my best ad (#2) is going down. But I can't complain in terms of conversions: 35 leads today which results in 23 USD profit (60%). The third ad didn't really do anything anymore so I killed that one off too. Check out the attachments.

So finally FB approved my ad, it took quite a while. As I hoped for the CTR is pretty good but CVR is not as good as the second ad, I guess the offer cannot live up to what the ad is suggesting. Some FB users probably thought that as well because quite soon the ad was disapproved "due to negative user feedback concerning the ad's content." I wasn't to upset because I barely made money from this ad.
The second ad was still performing ok on Sunday, but today for some reason it went worse. I noticed the frequency went up (it's at 17.6 now!) so CTR is low. The conversion rate also went down, don't know why.
Check the attachments. I changed the statistics to lifetime figures because I think somewhere down the road I made a mistake with the timezones because the numbers didn't add up. But I'm still in the plus:
Total costs: 134.89
Total revenue: 210.00
Total profit: 75.11
ROI: 56%
In the past few hours the campaign was barely profitable, so I will create some new ads:
- different (better) images, maybe add a border
- use onehourtranslation.com to create some Turkish ads
I didn't use Turkish ads before because I assumed most gamers know English to the extent that they could understand my ads, and because registration is in English too. But I guess my CTR might improve so it's definitely worth checking out.
After approval I'll split-test the best performing ads into age groups and gender.
I'll keep you guys posted!
great thread so far!
thanks for sharing
great follow along
Really interesting that you still got profitable writing in English, lmao. Nice work.
i would definitively translate them into turkish..there are a lot of people that don't speak any english in turkey...:-)
I'm guessing that he passed that $200 budget today.
Great work dude!

Hey everyone!
So yesterday my best performing ad's CTR was declining so my CPC went up and for some reason the CVR also went down. As a result I wasn't making money anymore. So I had my ad translated into Turkish, I found some new pictures and I created 10 new ads. I decided to go with ingame pictures just to prevent problems with the advertiser. Check the attachment for the images I used. Which one do you think performed the best?
My ads were approved this morning. My CTRs are still not spectacular but I'm not complaining because yesterday my best ad's CTR was 0.070% and now I have one doing 0.131% after 1041 clicks. Four other ads are also over 0.010% which is fine by me.
In terms of conversion and profit it was a good day (and still going). I attached the FB and CPA stats but both pasted into my Excel file it looks like this:
The red font represents paused ads. Ignore the 1594% en -100% ROIs because those are outliers based on just a few conversions. The overall ROI is 71% which is not spectacular but ad 9642TR13/ should get that figure up a bit.
Yes I know the budget for this contest is 200 USD and I already hit that. I don't know about you but I don't create profitable campaigns every day and I can use the $$. Besides, my AM emailed me I'll hit the cap in about 80 leads so the end is near.
I might split my best ad into age groups and gender but I think it won't get much better than this. What would you guys do?
You're killing it bro! Good stuff! I bet you're the only one seeing any profit due to the fact you're not worrying about budget.
Try profiting with the set $200 with a separate campaign and I'll really be impressed
nice cpc btw I wish I could get them that low.
Great results. Putting my gaming results to shame, but it's really good to see it can be done!
Can you give examples of the ad copy/headlines you used (but in English?)
^^ Check out the first post, second ad. That exact ad did pretty well and when translated in Turkish and some other images even better
*UPDATE*
I hit the budget cap a few hours ago. Unfortunately I missed it so my ads have been running for a while (and were redirected to a totally non-related offer) so my profit didn't increase much (total: 182.65).
I think I will look at some other games. Obviously the big challenge is to get a campaign profitable for North-America / West-Europe. I've been struggling with that for a year now but I think my membership here should get me far. I might continue to do a Follow Along on that, I'm not sure yet.
Nice to see your campaign is working out! Go seek for the same game offer on other networks and put it in rotation , and scale this baby!
Yo dude I gotta say great work, great write up!
I would def be tracking the age groups, there might be a few that are holding you down.
Also I would start thinking about how you could scale from there. Either by using your same strategy for different countries with similar offers. Or by finding other Turkish traffic sources, where you can run the exact same campaign on. Also talk to your rep on how to increase that nasty yucky cap!
^^Thanks! I tried a similar offer on another country and that's going pretty good as well! But I guess my entry for the contest is already complete because I finished up the budget, right?
Hey gang like I said in my previous post my other offer is going nicely. This time I won't disclose all info but I just wanted to let you know my CTRs have improved quite a bit compared to my previous campaign (check out the attachment). Each ad has the same targeting, headline, and body text so the difference is only caused by the image. These are my best 3 images:
I think the left and right ad stand out because of the bright colors; the middle one maybe because of the girl. It's not exact science, just try many and keep the winners. By the way these images were also the best converting ads.
hey movid, how is it going with your campaigns? Still running and profitable?
The offer I was talking about just hit the cap unfortunately, but I made a nice profit from it so I'm not complaining! Right now I'm looking for another offer open to international traffic. Obviously I'm hoping for an advertiser with bigger pockets because it's quite frustrating not being able to let those offers run for a while.
