Platform: Facebook Ads
Budget: $200
Niche: Gaming MMORPG
Network: WSM
Offer: Last Chaos EU (SE, FI, NO, DK, NL, IT, GR)
Payout: $1.60
Tracking: CPVlab
Demographic: Male / Female
Age Groups: 13-17 | 18-24 | 25-29
Est. Reach: Currently fucked up
I go broad to get some data and nail it down with interest on the 2nd run
less than 18, will get yourself booted, advertiser needed to get leads to convert too
Should be ok as long as you blend some of the older demographic in and keep an eye on your volume for the lower age bracket.
And don't discount 30+ you'd be surprised at the conversions.
@403flux, do you get your payout cut ? hows the lead quality ?
I have done some gaming offers before and never had an issue with leads coming from 13-17 aged users so I will give it a try again ;-)
Alright guys, got my first batch of ads disapproved (how suprising). Totally legit gaming ads and they disapproved of following reason:
prolly f*ckbook no like "download". ;-)
Are you direct linking from the Facebook ad or using a landing page? Try putting "download required" in the body copy of your ads instead.
Whats the setup for tracking FB with CPV Lab?
don't your account get banned for that ?
why should it get banned?..games that require a download are allowed on fb..as long as they don't contain any malware/adware like the gamevance offers
back to topic ;-)
Resubmitted *FingersCrossed*
Ya downloads are a bit of an issue they don't like them and the guidance I got on this was unless you are the direct-advertiser your gonna have a tough time.....not to say they will never get thru but just becareful
Okay got my second batch disapproved as well. I resubmitted them again, created a small lander and temporarly used the switch-and-bait method to get my ads approved. Today the ads were approved so I switched back to my affiliate link and deactivated the lander.
More to come...
Most MMORPG games are NOT download offers. I highly suggest you read up on gaming and get down with the vertical.
These browser games have an "optional" download that is only designed to enhance the speed of the game. They can be played in the browser without downloads.
I have never had any games disapproved on Facebook. Only if its a toolbar install will it get disapproved because toolbars are deemed spyware.
There is this totally black hat secret method to promoting games:
Sign up and play the game. Its free after all
Alright, ads for 18-29 aged are just approved. Let's get ready to rumble
Okay, CTR dropped from various ads from .24 below .1 so I definately need some kind of "angle" for this campaign.
Conversions so far: 4
13-17

18-29

Images

Okay, need some coffee and ideas now!
Be careful with your images...
If they catch you not using images of the actual game they will charge back.
I sent them my images for approval but didn't heard back yet so I just tried them ;-)
Yesterday I started using interests like different game titles. This decreased the demo to 32k/52k which is probably way to small now. Maybe I am targeting the wrong country?
I also used different images which are shown below:

All in all I got 101 clicks and 4 conversions which is terrible. This gives me an EPC of 0.06 which I can't beat with my current bids.
What is the headline/copy you're using?
@lavis:

I just got a bunch of images from the advertiser and HELL, they're ingame and the most boring images you can even think of. I have paused the campaign as I can't think of any image variations with these pics provided...
Try manipulating the in game images. Saturation levels, cut out some of the subjects, make them stand out.
You also need to really work on your ad text it's so default. Stackman just wrote a thread in this follow along section explaining about using different angles, you should try some of them out.
Okay so you're saying you can manipulate the images you get from advertisers to your likes? Would make it at least a bit more exciting ;-)
Okay started a broad campaign using a new offer. Global Warfare, the same as Nick's used in his contest entry. Didn't worked that well as the CPC was high and the CTR slopped down. Next try, using an angle or at least target the people with other game names...To Be Continued
Alright, time for some numbers and I can tell you they suck
Although I managed to get the ads approved pretty fast, I wasn't able to get any lower CTR for this campaign. I really think this happend because the german market is probably saturated with this offer.
Money spent: $81
Revenue: $38
Profit/Loss: -$43
Ad Images I've use:

Ad 01/03/06/07/09/11 were a bit shopped by me (lens flares and stuff like that)
My best performing ad was this:

What I've learned? I suck at FB and should probably move on
Still got about $62 bucks left for this contest, maybe I should just try another offer?
Great work with your creatives. They look good.
But it seems your CPC is way to high to make this low CPA offer work. You would need the offer to convert at at least 30% to make it work.
Either start messing with your demo to find a low CPC or try a different country.
@ppvnewbie : your bid is way to high. Improve on your CTR, I able to get a CTR of 0.2 from start when laser target my FB campaign. Do what the GreenMan said.
@Mr Green: Thanks! I really have to look for another country I guess. I saw ads for this game weeks ago so it's probably saturated!
@hd2010: Even for Germany? I am usually not that bad coming up with good images but for this campaign I am not able to push the CTR even higher
@mediumpie: Thanks a lot, will try that today.
edit: Just checked some networks and I am not able to find this offer for other countries then US and DE
@ppvnewbie : you bid 1.65, lower it down as others old you, just do it
Already done, just though since the actual bid is 0.43 it doesn't go down even more. Well you always learn ;-) Thanks!
Okay as suggested I restarted the campaign again but tested with $15 instead of just $5. I made only two conversions with a result of $4. I changed the CPC to the suggested lowest bid of 0.43 but didn't get that much impressions. Cause of this I've upped the CPC to 0.65 and the clicks started coming in again...CPC then didn't dropped much of my previous tests so I really think this isn't working anymore in DE.
And here is are some stats of the new campaign.
Offer: Allods
Payout: 0.4
Country: Turkey
Age Groups: 18-29, split testing Male/Female
Demo: 9 million (Male), 5.4 million (Female)
Angle: none, going broad
Campaign Reach: 560,338 (Male), 284,799 (Female)
Spent: $104 (already over the $200 buget so it might not be counted for the contest)
Conversions: 34
Revenue: $19.69 (*ouch*)
My Ads:

Conclusion:
With mixed feelings I don't really have any kind of answers why both of the campaigns didn't really worked out. Second offer (allods) probably need to be run with an angle and not getting broad like I did.
Even with clicks low as 0.06 up to 0.19 I am not able to make this profitable. Slow CTR might be the main indicator I should consider on the next campaign...Also considering translating into the native language of the country could improve the CTR A LOT.
I am still thinking that Global Warfare is saturated in Germany and that's the reason it hadn't that much interest. I think the images were pretty neat and not seen as much as the images of other advertisers.
So long, out and over of this contest
Until the next one takes place. Good luck to all others.
