mobile world congress

Hi!

I'm going to stm london, thinking about attenting mobileworldcongress before.

Got 3 questions:
1. do you see much value in attending it? I've never attended a business conference before so I've got a lot to learn.
2. can I get a discount somewhere? on thier site i saw 749euros, how can I get a discount?
3. what was your experience attenting it if you have?

Thanks!

Haha wow this is a huge first conference to attend. This will be my first mobile world congress too. I heard its a amazing in terms of value if you are running mobile. I would treat it like any other conference and have clear goals in place and try to set up meetings before you get there. The speeches look worthwhile compared to affiliate summits too.

I'm not aware of any discounts.

MWC is much more geared toward enterprise (businesses) participants. It certainly is an interesting and valuable event, but not really an affiliate conference by any means.

Yep, it's not your typical conference but it's a great place to get in touch with traffic sources and app owners.

I went a couple years ago, the section for app developers/mobile traffic was pretty small. I think maybe...80% was for hardware like new phones and 3rd party accessories. Not alot of developers but a couple big game publishers were there. There are alot of traffic sources (CPM/CPC, SMS, DSPs, CPI companies, stand alone apps that promote other apps like appturbo, etc). There were also some companies you can meet if you wanted to outsource app development...app dev tools like critterism, etc. I just remember there were alot of traffic sources but I'm sure you guys already know most of them Velti and Inmobi had the biggest booths.

I went with the goal of finding new clients (app developers) and didn't meet alot at the conference itself. Only when I went to Pocketgamer's Party is when I met tons of app developers. So if you are looking for something like that, I would see if pocketgamer was throwing any parties. Any event that pocketgamer has there is a 100% guarantee for app developers and publishers aka direct deals.

Goodluck!

This'll be my first MWC, but I've only heard good things - whole different level from Affiliate Summit. Some of the biggest mobile affiliates we work with go here to sort out direct deals with app developers, that can open the doors for you to promote their apps on Facebook and bypass those scrubbing aff networks.

We'll be exhibiting there with Voluum, and have around 20 free passes to give out. If you're a paying customer of ours hit up our support and we can probably hook you up.

It is NOT an affiliate conference by any means. This is very much geared to enterprises, including telcos, mobile operators, telecommunications equipment providers, consulting firms, software companies, and handset manufacturers. Increasingly there is a growing presence of mobile app developers and mobile distributors, but they are still the minority. The large booths will be run by names like Samsung, Xiaomi, Vodafone, T-mobile, Accenture, NTT Docomo, Huawei, Google, etc.

If you are involved in the mobile ecosystem (or as a consumer, want to get a sneak peak at the very latest handsets), it can be very a valuable and interesting tradeshow. On the other hand, if you expecting parties in nightclubs filled with males the average age of 22 who are trying to act like rap stars ... well, you will be disappointed.

Lol no I def would not expect the latter. I actually have a background in communications and have gone to similar conferences before. Back when fiber optics was the big exciting thing. It was prior to the mobile smart phone revolution obviously. So Would be interesting to experience it with a different point of view.
