My Campaign Won't Stop Spending - Help

Today is my first day running traffic through ExoClick and I'm having problems stopping my campaigns. Once I decided I wanted to stop, I paused all my ads but they kept spending money. I even tried deleting all my campaigns but they still won't stop spending. It's been over 30 min since I paused/deleted them all.

Does anybody know what's going on? How do I stop this?

it will continue to run, its somewhere around a 15 min window

This has been going on way longer than 15 min though...

What happens if I run out of money in my account? Is it possible they will charge me for more than what I funded my account with?

Edit: Looks like it finally stopped. Took about 30-40 min.

didnt they change their algo so it updated sooner?

my guess is you were hitting RON in a big GEO. when creating a new campaign, always start with a small bid and slowly creep it up if you are not to familiar with the traffic, especially if you are testing it in a GEO that you aren't familiar with in RON.

simple way to prevent an EXOplosion

new RON campaigns you always kinda want to baby the first little bit, make sure that there aren't poor converting placements taking the majority of the traffic because all your competitors have blacklisted them already. Easy way to confirm this is to spy. grab a few good converting placements, spy on them, see who the majority of affiliates are running on them and compare with poor converting placements.

dont forget to clear your cache between placements.

Agreed. In the higher traffic geos, there is delay in the stats as well as the pausing timings. So they tend to overrun quite a bit ok exo. Eg, I started a campaign in us, budget 20 bucks just for laughs. It spent 54 bucks before saying daily budget was hit. So yeah. Start with 20 or 50 budget for new campaigns and increase when it hit daily cap if it is profitable.

This is normal with exoclick, their backend is a bit slow when it comes to stopping campaigns, which is the most obvious when running campaigns with really broad targeting. I've been told by their support that they "refresh" the campaigns every 10 minutes, so lets give it 15. On top of that, you have to realize many banners are already displayed on pages that surfers for example watch videos on, so clicks may be coming in even after no new banner impressions are actually delivered, so in case you're bidding CPC, it will mean additional $ spent. According to my experience, with broad targeting, its pretty normal to receive clicks even 30 minutes after I stop a campaign.

Thanks for all your help and all the info guys. I actually did contact support but they took a couple of hours getting back to me. You guys actually helped me figure it out before they did! This is the explanation they gave btw: "Please be advised that campaigns stop spending once you have paused them. But the system might need up to one hour to update the statistics and for this reason you have seen a change on spending."

Well for me it was a good lesson to learn. I sort of just jumped feet first into adult and kinda got slapped around a little...but no biggie. I'm not used to such a high amount of traffic so it will take some getting used to (I'm primarily used to running POF where I have a lot more control over how I spend and how much traffic I get). I'm planning on targeting smaller countries for now for slower traffic (IE, NZ) and trying out Traffic Junky (which I hear is easier to get started on). Also need to study all the exoclick posts and adult dating posts on here. I've only read a few so far and I'm learning a ton...

Yeah, you've got to be careful if you're targeting a giant market.

If in doubt, ignore what you see about minimum or recommended bids. Just bid the bare minimum and raise it slowly until you're getting the right amount of traffic.

Also, make sure your frequency cap is 1 per 24 hours.

This advice is gold. It helps you feel out a system, get the little bits of information that no-one will tell you up front about such as overspending on budgets.
