mobile pops newbie question...

Are mobile pops interactive? for example, if I do a survey style for mobile pops does it happen within that window or when the user clicks on the pop, it goes to the landing page?

2nd question: Are mobile pops and full screen ads the same thing?

3rd question: can mobile pops be run on carrier only?

1) Mobile pops can be linked to a landing page so can be as interactive as you make them, surveys, fake scans, etc. Mobile Pops hide underneath another webpage so are not seen until the user is finished with whatever they are doing; it is common to use a Javascript Alert to bring them to your web page without waiting.
2) The mobile pop is essentially a full screen ad.
3) You can target carrier only on certain traffic sources but it will be hard to get decent volume.

Best thing to do is get a mobile, go to a random porn site, click a thumbnail and witness a mobile popunder in action.

ahh...i get it now, actually I've witnessed tons of popunders for porn sites when looking at screenshots...damn those are annoying haha.

So when people are talking about pops they are talking about popunders and not popovers or popups!

But a little unclear, the mobile pop can be interactive or not? of course the landing page is interactive but is the actual mobile popunder interactive where the user can do the survey or whatever in the pop under window or they have to click through first?

What traffic sources allow carrier only targeting for pop unders?

I think it can be popups as well, for instance apkfullpro.com, maybe it depends on the traffic source? But it is generally best to have a JS alert on page load to make sure the visitor gets directed to your landing page.

I don't quite understand what you are trying to explain regarding interactive but will try to explain using the porn site. If you don't have a JS alert and it is a popunder, then they will have the porn video in front of them before they get the chance to go to your landing page. If it is a popunder and your landing page uses a JS alert, the alert will bring your landing page above the porn video and no further action should be required.

Again if you go back to porn sites to see mobile popunders you should come across landing pages using a alert box.

so it is always recommended to use the js alert to bring the lp on the actual page the user hit? When browsing torrent sites, I only see the alerts for app installs. What if you're promoting mobile subscription or just general adult dating? Still recommended to use js alert pop-up?

I'd like to offer some more insight after reading past posts posted in this thread.

1. Most ad networks, for some reason, call an interstitial that opens in a different page a mobile popup. By definition this is not a mobile popup, it's bad user experience and you'll get the low banner-like results you see through all your media buy campaigns. there's a better way to do really engaging mobile popups, which is what we do.
2. i agree they are destructive for user journey and very low in engagement as a user will most likely would like to stay at the page where he's at and continue to view the content, instead of being thrown out to a different page.
