This vertical is not often discussed here and I am looking for a few like minded individuals to skype regularly to kick around ideas and come up with a plan to achieve green in this vertical.
I am open to many traffic sources but am most experienced in display and pop/redirect.

Count me in - I havea lot of experience in insurance.
These are very compliance heavy verticals which are subject to not only advertiser requirements but also extremely struct legal guidelines from regulatory authorities like Financial Conduct Authority, Ministry of Justice, FTC, DOJ and the like ... many of which differ by country (and even state).
You should definitely make sure that you narrow down a geography and get a solid understanding of the compliance and regulatory issues in that specific geography before diving head first into this vertical.
These can be very attractive and profitable verticals, but a large part of the reason is because they are so compliance heavy.
