I'm a newb to mobile and don't have a follow along ready just yet.
However, in my very short time in mobile, the four letter word I've learned to love and hate .... TIME
Time is paramount ...
Sometimes you're in control of time (time to create angles, banners, LPs, etc).
Most often it seems, time is out of your control. Waiting on advertiser's approval on creative. Waiting on traffic source approvals. Waiting on getting a good sample size of data. This is one of the aspects of AM that isn't sexy and where stars are made.
I get very excited about the creative process and then have to wait until things are approved on both ends (Advertiser and Traffic Source).
It seems like very unproductive time.
It's a good lesson - patience is a virtue (don't kill a campaign before you have enough data, etc).
Anyhow, plodding along and learning a great deal each day - about mobile and myself.
Cheers!
I hear ya!
Especially as I'm trying to combine this with my day job, I want to get everything done and dusted at the weekend/evenings, which can make some weekends seem very unproductive when my next suretomakemeamillionaire campaign is sat waiting for approval.
It's taken me a good few months to realise the waiting is inevitable and should be planned for. Now I know whilst campaign A is in someone else's hands I need to get working on Campaign B, C & D.
Of course at worst there are a million STM threads, Cashvertising to be read, code to learn, etc...
I started off thinking like this however then I started all of my tests at midnight and run them for the full day. This meant I could get everything set up ready to go for mid night, apply for offers, create campaign on traffic source, build landing pages, etc.
By doing this it also made me leave campaigns running for the full day which means I get a lot more accurate data (campaigns that were -40% ROI have ended up in the green my the end of that).
It also made me create a lot more landing pages, by running a full day I could test 4 or 5 landing pages rather than just testing between two (also 4 or 5 offers)
I'm applying to a few more networks and switching the traffic source I use for my first pass at campaigns - the one I'm currently using is awesome and user-friendly, but the turnaround time on campaign approvals is very long.
Perhaps when I'm spending more money, there's a tiered service level and turnaround time becomes much quicker. I have no problem spending more, but I can't wait 2-3 days for campaign approvals.
I do like the idea of setting everything up for midnight - I will work that into my process.
I think it's a mindset, waiting for creative approvel is an excuse. There's always stuff to test and shit to make happen.
I know when I need to "wait" for something it's cause I'm lazy.
Just my 2 cents
Agreed - I need to use the "down" time to create more campaigns
yes you are right, this is like a double edge sword.
can get very frustrating for a newbie to alwsy be waiting for something to happen, but I like the idea that the train should alwsy be moving regardless.
Explore further business seems to be working for me.
inaction leads to worry, frustration, and eventually depression. Progress gives meaning to life from what I've learned :P
I'm a huge culprit of ending campaigns before giving them enough time, it's hard to be patient
