Need help "understanding" Mobile Traffic

How's it going guys. I feel like a total newbie again even though I spent a lot of time on POF. I'm starting Mobile and just trying to get a grasp on how it works. Just have some newbie questions..

1. Where exactly are these ad's coming up? When people visit certain websites on their cell phones they just pop up?

2. How do you TARGET on Mobile? For example on POF I could target 5'8 black females from Canada. How does this work on Mobile?

3. What are all the different types of traffic - I was talking to fellow member who used to work on POF with me and he's been doing Mobile and started saying "Oh you could use Pop traffic or Redirect traffic, then there's Push traffic and RON traffic". I'm guessing different Traffic Sources have different types of traffic - but that leads me to ask what's the difference between "Decisive" and "ExoClick" and "Airpush" and on and on.

4. How important is the STARTING traffic source? The cookbook says start with Decisive. But then I came across the thread that lists literally 400 ad networks. Is Decisive good enough to make big bucks? Or is there a substantial correlation between the traffic source you use and the success you have. Which would lead me to ask wouldn't it be best to split test each campaign across traffic sources?

Thanks so much for the help guys.

There is a great course that zeno is running that covers all of these topics. As for 4, you should probably start with 2-3 sources and split test them.
