Breaking Into the US iOS Market

Gents,

Been following the mobile cookbook appetizer, trying to break into the US market for iOS/Droid (I know it's initially suggesting other markets outside the US). But I really want to see if I can crack this as there's so much volume and offers from Aff networks to run here.

I keep running tests for the US GEOs on iOS on Decisive and I'm literally getting 0.5% of the bids, very low CTRs and 0 conversions by the time I hit 15X my payout. I don't even get conversion data to optimize off.

My mind wants to find a way to niche down in the US market, perhaps go for a specific state/iOS version, iPhone model, but I'm wondering if that's still pointless and I'm up against competition who is (?) getting much cheaper higher quality traffic. (I know nobody has a crystal ball, but I know that many of you have way more experience than I do and have seen patterns like this which can help me accelerate my learning and better understand why this isn't work and how I might better approach it)

I know the offers I'm testing are driving volume in this market, my AM has already lead me to success running another offer, and for these new offers he's passed over some conversion reports showing the GEOs and iOS versions (US), but when I go into this with my tests, it's like I'm dropping an eye dropper into the ocean, I'm literally getting nothing.

Any general rules of thumb, suggestions on how to attack this? How do others crack into this market and start crushing it..

Thanks for the thoughts!

What kind of offers?

It's ideal if you can get information from your AM, as you did, on converting, geos, OS, etc. Ideally get carrier information to - this will allow you to determine if WiFi or Carrier are doing starkly different.
