I've started a small project to test out an idea. It's in the gambling niche, but not in the usual sense. It's focusing on news sites that cover gambling winnings. Maybe I'm being too vague with my description but I don't want to go into too many details about it.
So here's my issue. Read through zeno's guide and that led me to the section in the FB TOC "Ads and Pages may not encourage irresponsible gambling behavior or present gambling as an income opportunity".
I understand the mindset of "if you think it violates something within FB's TOC then stay away from it" because it's better to err on the side of caution because of FB's propensity to cut off an advertisers ability to access their accounts at the drop of a hat.
I believe I know what the answer/s are going to be, but I'm gonna ask anyway.
Should I continue building my FB page presence? The page is up and running and hasn't been closed down. Maybe because it's still small...
Should I not run ads through my FB account for website traffic to the site? I was going to run ads directly to the news story post, not to the homepage. I'll have ad placements on the homepage for different gambling sites.
Should I focus more on other traffic sources? If so, which would you recommend? Is Bing a good traffic source?
Their terms are pretty clear here - the page shouldn't promote irresponsible gambling, and you shouldn't use ads/content that promote bizopps - i.e. any product/service where it's suggested that they'll make money - e.g. secret gambling loophole to net $xxx/daily, that kind of crap.
If it's a community page and you focus on news it should be fine.
If you position yourself and the page as providing news and insider info on gambling, while not trying to peddle any sites/offers to people, it should be fine. Like all things in this arena, FB may still flip a switch on a whim.
I would advertise news feed posts rather than your site.
What exactly do you want from the FB page? Is your goal to get more traffic to your page to then promote offers via ads? Will you have articles there that promote bizopps? The more it goes toward money making the more likely it is for FB to catch on and just ban/remove your page and account. Keep it kosher with indirect selling on the backend if you want to play nice with FB...
Thanks for chiming in zeno!
It sounds reasonably well thought out.
I would just go for it and test it.
