I am new (as seen by my post count) and have read through the Getting Started info.
I am still unsure on how the traffic thing works.
So I get a product to try and sell and then need to find a way to get it out to the masses. My understanding is my traffic source/provider is what will push my ads out there ?
What I am unsure of is where do you find the traffic provider ? I understand FB and see people talking about POF and kind of get it. ..but what if you are trying to sell something hypothetical like "the secret training techniques used by a 7 x world champion speed refrigerator cleaner" , how do you determine which traffic source to use . Is there a list of available traffic sources ?

Think of the traffic sources as "Ad Distributors". You make your ad "Lose 10 lbs in 30 days" and they will show it to their entire network of sites, hence why they can make claims like "Over 2 Billion views a day!" Obviously you can choose which sites you will place your ads on (most sources allow that, although some don't, and you're forced to do a RON buy or Run On Network- they deliver to ALL sites and you can't choose)
There are multiple sources that cater to different Geos, Verticals and etc... Adult and Mainstream sources. Mobile focused sources... you name it.
So you are paying them to display your ad. And you're hoping people click and sign up for/buy the product you're promoting.
There is a guide somewhere here with the list of traffic sources and what type of traffic they carry.
For the refrigerator cleaner, you have to know what audience you want to target first. 18-25? Problably not. Males? Probably Not... so you're really trying to find a traffic source that has sites that cater to your demo, which is why Facebook is considered the best source of the universe because you can pinpoint exactly who to show the ads to.
