Selling your own products through PPC Ads?! (using your aff marketing knowledge)
I'm going to be writing a lengthy blog post on how I've done this once successfully and am about to be doing it a 2nd time in a completely different way. I'll share my steps involved etc, and I'll share some real useful tips in the forums only, but for now i want to see if anyone else has done/does this.
Your 'own' products can mean products you buy wholesale, products you make yourself, pretty much any products you sell as long as it's not lead capturing, or CPS products. They have to be your own.
2 examples:
- I know 1 sunglasses site buys there glasses in massive wholesale amounts, then categorizes all the latest fashions and markets each fashion to the specific niche/type of people who like them. (ie: wayfarers to snowboarders, wakeboarders and the like)
- A blog i used to read talked about how he mass purchased contact lenses, then got his own packaging done for them, and marketed them to specific demo's/events.

My girlfriend has a pearl jewelry biz that I did PPC campaigns for a few years back. I was relatively inexperienced and the click prices/competition were very high, so I couldn't make it profitable. I randomly ran into Sergey Brin on the NYC subway around this time and dumbly bitched at him about how expensive adwords had become...
She buys wholesale from a few reliable suppliers in Asia, who produce her custom designs and ship out finished pieces to us. But we've found that jewelry generally sells better in person, (especially if you're not a name brand), so she's focused off-line these days.

I have an ecommerce store and sell Russian Kettlebells .. a type of old style weight training tool ... and I am just about to start PPC for them.
Wonder if the Angry Russian is a Girevik .... ie, Kettlebell trainer?

The main difference between what i'm doing and ecommerce is i'm treating what i do as affiliate campaigns that sell products for 1-12 months instead, of a full time eCommerce site. I know before hand I'm not trying to build a brand or a longterm business. It's an affiliate campaign with every part of it handled by me, more risk but more room for profit (sometimes).
No one else has dabbled with this?
i have dabbled with this for sure. never really did something. i have been researching for iphone cases/bb cases accessories wholesales, and found some. but just the idea with the taxes and sending and custumer support i always felt it is too much hassle, and the margins would have been too slim.
Yep, would be TONS of competition within iphone accessories too, unless you have a viral idea to make your own cases.

Yes I buy a few tonne of them, which because of their weight isn't probably as many as you think. In fact the reason I am trying to move towards AM is so I can scale without customer issues and without handling a physical (sometimes heavy) product, especially since I work a full time job as well. For those not sure what a kettlebell is, my avatar is of me doing a kettlebell swing.
I am really interested in this campaign. I have never done it but thought about it a lot. I have a lot of contacts with owners and sales reps that sell phone/tablet/mp3 cases as well as any cord imaginable. They guys supply the whos who (Best Buy, Costco, Wal mart, Office Max, etc.) with their products and generally are the ones doing the private label for them as well. I would love to team up with someone and create our own private label for one of those niches and create a site as the margins are huge.

I have two ecommerce stores and working on my third.
Haven't bought any traffic for them yet but I am planning on it. I am looking forward this case study to see what works.
Yeah I'm excited to see the product types, and how you focus the sales copy. I've tried this in the past (other traffic sources - not PPC) with ebooks and got up to about $100/day in profit. It wasn't scalable though.
I can't wait to see what happens with this. I actually have my own digital product that's done modest sales on its own and people always tell me to do paid traffic to it but I just don't have the balls. All the sales it's done thus far are through SEO/word of mouth, can't imagine how big I could scale it though if I figured out a way to get paid traffic converting it with it...hm. :/

Sounds interesting, I've played with the idea lots of times. But I've never gotten of my ass and done it all the way. I know you can do some cheap initial testing though.

Yeah i guess it's just how you like to do it, i always favor uncompetitive niches, and i think it'd because it allows me to demonstrate more creativity.
No matter how you do it though, the margins are higher, but i found the beauty of this whole operation is being able to create your own niches, or dominate smaller niches that don't have any (or good) products to be an affiliate for.
I'm sure it would probably benefit me to take that approach as well. I'm just a bit impatient so volume comforts me.

Very interesting idea, I've used to do Aff marketing but have stopped because it was not for me and my lifestyle.
What I'm doing is try to find angels where i can profit by doing wholesale like your idea or:
- Software (scripts, programs or web based) create and sell products.
- Service type of products
- eBooks (How-To)
Mainly doing PPC/SEO and working extremely well for me in 1 niche (6 figure monthly). Looking for more ideas
