how to track costs with banner CPM?

trying banner format atm, and not sure how to track costs when it's on a CPM basis and not CPC basis.

I thought I'd manually see what's the average cost for me for 1000 impressions and divide that for the clicks I got. (example got 1000 imp, 10 clicks and I pay 1$CPM --> cpc is 0.1$)

How do you track these costs?

To track the actual profit/loss, you will need to use an additional Excel spreadsheet or sth where you put in the spend of the traffic source and the revenue of the affiliate networks.

For a rough estimate, you can put in the overall campaign CPC (just divide overall cost by overall clicks) in your tracker and update the value every couple days or so. This won't help you with individual banner stats though as CTRs, and therefore CPCs, will probably vary quite a bit.

I would also recommend this for CPC sources as well since due to issues like click loss etc you will never get 100 % accurate data in your tracker.

Yep there is no exact way to get it on the tracker.

Just let it run for a bit, figure out an average CPC and use that as an estimate.

To have accurate data you need to update costs manually.

Yep, leg work needed.

The alternative is to use traffic source conversion tracking so that you can see real cost/revenue together, though this is limited by what the source offers as is your ability to drill down into banners, placements, devices, etc.
