Guys what you think about this? Isn't it what we are causing to the end-user? Don't you think it's a bit Black Hat? I don't want to just make some money, I want to help both sides - the Advertiser and the End-User. Maybe the aggressive Tech Support pop ups are not the right weapon for these type of offers... Share what you think, please.
These are really awful stuff.
Got a cold call from one of them the other day
"Hello sir,our system tells us your computer is running really slow"
"no it doesn't "**hangs up**
wouldn't touch with a barge pole
That's crazy!!! So scammy shit.
BTW more on this here: https://blog.malwarebytes.org/tech-support-scams/ (also with some nice landers
)
I get calls from these companies at least once a month. They basically tell you that your computer is under attack. I usually tell them I'm 83 and I don't have a computer - only a mobile phone for emergencies. They hang up straight away
lol...
Very scammy.. while the dir /s (list all files and folders) command was running, the "support" operator wrote that scary text
No wonder Google no likey, eh?
Scam or not, a ton of people are making a fortune off of this and until they will - it will be around.
I got at least 3 of these calls! There is a better one actually a call about winning a free vacation or something like that, those guys must be making huge money. What happens is they either randomly call number or have a database and once a customer presses "1" on the phone they get redirected to an affiliate or someone who quickly "qualifies" the prospect with a question if they are over 21, after that it is a simple PayPerCall offer that I believe converts amazing after that age qualifier. I got a few calls from them and if you answer the guy anything but "yes" he quickly hangs up, so that he doesn't waste time. They manage to call from spoofed numbers that look very close to customer's number, example - 123-456-7890 is my number, they would call from 123-456-7878. Annoying for me and you and average Joe? Yes. Are they making huge money from this automated system? YES.
I thought this was legit when I went to go promote it; ended up getting my Adwords account banned instantly.
Should've done my homework.
Shortly after that I was told by a relative how they were scammed out of $250 by one of these companies and left with a corrupted OS, as well as the company asking for more money to fix the problem they themselves caused.
Wouldn't touch this crap with a 10-foot pole, even if it made me money. Plenty of money to be made elsewhere, where end-users aren't being screwed.
@integrity
I must say, i also thought it was legit tech support via phone or lead generation for local tech support companies.
Majority of affiliate marketing is selling bullshit to people but these guys really have no shame with it
