Affiliate Summit West - Is it worth it for a complete beginner?

I am looking at going to Aff West that coming up next week. However, is it worth it for a complete beginner? I am in the commodities business and have had a good run with this for 3 years. But I don't control this company, I just have grown it 1,000% for the owners and have been rewarded as a result. I really want to run and control my own business. And I want to use the cash I have made thus far to invest in myself.

I am a complete beginner and only ran a few offers on POF. From your experience should I get more experience getting setup up and launching (which I plan to do), or is Aff West worth it in your experience?

If I did go, I plan on going to Charles Ngo Monday seminar, but other than that I would just get the Networking pass and walk the vendor halls.

Thanks,
David

I'm a newbie in AM myself, but I did choose to go to ASW this year.

In my opinion, asking that question is similar to asking if it's worth joining STM: the resources and opportunities are there, but at the end of the day, it's what you make of it.

I too, want to run my own business someday. I've heard the stories of affiliates getting rich overnight, but losing their money even faster. I really want to last in this game, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll be an affiliate my entire career involved in this industry. So for me, attending ASW is also a way of seeing how the industry works and seeing if I can align myself for long term success.

Also, just meeting people face-to-face is much better than sitting behind a computer all day. Who knows which affiliate manager you might meet at the conference, and maybe you'll get approved into a particular network or even hear about offers that they don't advertise. Of course, I'm taking a wild guess at this, but I always follow my rule of "never shut down any opportunities for yourself". You never know who you're going to meet; maybe it could be your next business partner, a mentor, or even someone who could give you a tip that will help you achieve your first successful campaign.

So yes, I do think it's worth attending ASW. But if you're torn between deciding to attend ASW, or needing the money for business expenses (software, buying traffic, etc) I'd probably just use the money for business expenses since that's really what's going to put money into your account.

If it's not a large journey to get there then I say go for it.

@ Dsurf - if you're in SD, you can probably score a cheap flightand I would say GO. Stay off the strip, bring some costco supplies, i.e. power bars and you could definitely network. Check out Charles's blog post on events to see where to go.. If you stay on the strip, you'll be spending at least a $1k just for hotel fees/lodging..

Some people will get $200 return on flights then pay ~$100-150 a night for the 2-3 nights then get out of there... It's easy to be frugal especially if you've been trained as a student (like me!) and are OK with fast food and $20/night bunk beds at a backpackers :P
