2015: The Year Of The STM Guide

Hey, everyone!

As you may have spotted in my forum signature, from being the general forum manager I'm moving to specifically focus on our articles, guides, and case studies. I'm going to be both updating guides to keep them current, and working on new case studies, guides, tests, and more.

We've already got an incredible wealth of information here at STM, but I want to kick it up even more to really make everyone's STM memberships pay off a hundred or a thousand times over.

So, as I'm getting started on that mission, I want to ask everyone two questions.

Firstly: what types of article would you like to see more of? More guides? More case studies? More tests? More theory? More explanation?

And secondly, what specific topics would you like to see covered? Is there anything you want us to test, prove, demonstrate, explain, or give step-by-step guides for?

Let me know, and you may well see it shortly...

Case studies would be good for newbies like me . As i'm always stuck in between whenever i started new campaign. I would learn faster by referring to case studies. It also would be better if there's more detail tutorial on mobile cpa.

I would like to send a small request. Would you guys able to produce some video on the process of starting/running campaigns?
As a newbie like me, i wouldn't understand some complicating terms via texts on forums. Videos might give newbies a better understanding.

Videos:
IE: Choosing Offers
IE: Cutting Placements
IE: Optimize campaigns
IE: Doing the Math

I'm sticking to STM forum because you guys are AWESOME!
Thanks

Yup! Video is definitely doable, and something I'm planning to produce a lot more of in 2015.

We know that quite a lot of STMers would prefer to learn from videos!

True. Just like working out. Look at the guy Jeff Seid. He is one good example.
I personally learn all the workouts and train properly in gym. I believe that i can learn the same thing here and obtain more success with your videos =D

any and all subjects

More guides and case studies would be great!

Also, probably topics for intermediates like scaling and optimising campaigns and traffic sources. Also, guides on how to avoid banner blindness (i.e. how to identify if your banner/LP is starting to get banner blindness and what to do about it)

This might be not true, but I think a lot of newbies can actually profit from a series of video about the basics of AM.
As a newbie, I know a lot of theory, but taking action seems to be a new obstacle.

I would suggest a series of video about the basics, while each video is made by an expert (Exemple: expert 1 on how to choose an offer, expert 2 on how to track, etc.)
Along with some videos guides about the traffic.

I've discovered a big wealth of information on this forum, for which I'm grateful.
I also know that intellectual masturbation can actually be bad, so I think a series of
videos with an action plan, which is the last and most accurate infos a newbies need
to get started would help.

direct media buy sites case study

The guides are definitely some of the most valuable content on the forum. A mega guide on the top 20 common mistakes that new affiliates make (and how to avoid them) would be amazing!

I think case studies would be great. As a newbie, this whole AM thing seems awesome but at the same time it seems too good to be true but case studies makes it a little bit more "real".

Also those experiments you are doing now and then are really great. Im thinking of stuff like the "make me the worst banner"-thread and the one where you tested the sizes of landing pages and it ended up with someone posting a gem about PNGs might actually now be reconverted compared to jpg etc. That stuff is great!

I found the mobile cookbook approach super helpful for taking action after reading through the initial newbie guides. It's a great way to tailor guides to people's existing skill levels. I think a video cookbook would be even more useful!

Case studies and guides are always welcomed.

I think you provide some great content already, but some of it hasn't been updated in a while. A revisit every 6-12 months to articles or guides would keep things interesting for new people.
But overall, GREAT JOB!

Loads of great ideas - thanks everyone! I've noted the requests for videos and case studies in particular.

Keep 'em coming!

More and more case studies. To be honest i learned a lot from the case studies posted here. It's nice to see how big players promoted things Give's me ideeas

thanks!

Keeping information current please. You guys do a great job at it already, so please keep it coming.

I'd like to see a very detailed mobile campaign. Don't need to be a big one, something like $10 / day just so we can understand how to make that ROI positive.

Is there a possibility to have some more intel about cloacking (Facebook diet/skin/muscle and dating) and cloacking on mobile?

01-07-2015 09:53 PM #19 stackman (Administrator)

Case studies are always my favorite.

Everyone learns different ways but when i see a case study, i can analyze what that person did from start to finish for their campaign, and then take elements to add to my own

01-08-2015 12:17 AM #20 hannahmcintyre ()

Yeah, I like case studies for the same reason as Stackman. It doesn't matter if they're successful or not, it's all about the analysis.

Case studies and Videos... hmmm

Case studies are definitely very inspiring, they're the reason I originally joined STM. We will definitely work on releasing some case studies

This isn't something the STM forum want's to openly associate with - we know a lot of it goes on but would rather distance ourselves from it. Much like how it would be imprudent to do formal studies about shoplifting...

Looks like the demand is clear ... less theory and gazillions and gazillions more practical, real life, and fresh case studies by people who actually know what they are doing!

That is genuinely valuable content you can't find easily anywhere else.

First off, thank you so much for all the wealth of information in STM.
Case Studies and guides work well for me. I'm actually looking for a great way to come up with angles so a guide would be really helpful, especially on how the top guys pick angles. Of course, I recently joined so maybe there's a ton of information already here.

I really like the explanations and guides i find them truly useful

Case studies

01-09-2015 07:45 AM #29 wangyalun (AMC Alumnus)

Case Studies ,Which vertical is hot for the quarter year and nascent hot traffic sources preferably the latter two in a form of short one or two pager.

01-09-2015 10:16 AM #30 caurmen (Administrator)

Gotcha - all ideas added to the editorial calendar! Angles in particular are a bit of a speciality of mine, so I might look at getting an angles guide done soon.

Failure studies :-)

I would like to see superaffiliate X go through a very long and painful optimisation progress to eventually conclude that the campaign is a failure.
- why did you start this particular campaign?
- how do you read the data?
- at each step of the process, what are your thoughts?
- what are you evaluating/considering to do?
- on your next action, why is it that you decide to take that particular action?
- why do you eventually conclude to give up on the campaign?

Considering that the campaign is a failure, I hope that would allow to provide 100% full transparency of all the ingredients (traffic sources, banners, landers, data, etc...)

I would also love it to be a fully clean whitehat campaign without any element that could even be considered risky / tricky / lucky to get approved / probably get banned if running for more than a week / ... etc

Don't get me wrong, we all love to read and share superhero stories :-) but if 9/10 campaigns are failures then why not share one of those failures through the eyes and mind of an anonymous superaffiliate?

It could be great use for us newbies who currently mainly get to see either amazing superhero stories or else total newbie failures.

Case studies. Period.
