Hi guys, just wondering about cpi traffic and how it can be used. From my understanding i thought it was only for app owners who wanted to promote their own app and use the ad networks sdk. Is there another way that i can't think of?

Most of them you need to have the SDK installed - hence only the App owner OR if you can make a deal with an app owner (best option by far)
There are a few that allow S2S but unlike other ad networks they only allow ONE advertiser per campaign which makes it incredibly hard for affiliates - if you're not first then you have to bring a higher CPI
Almost all the main ad networks allow CPI - you just need a big enough budget
Also there is some publishers to sell traffic on CPI basis.
