2 Offers from same network, Same set of landers but different CTR

Happy New Year everyone

Scenario:
I'm split testing two offers from the same network. Both have similar domain url (eg. www.networkurl.com) and I'm using the same landers. Same geo, same traffic source.

Voluum stats:
Offer A: 16852 Visits, 4201 Clicks
Offer B: 16527 Visits, 2814 Clicks

The CTR has a difference of about a third and I don't seem to know why.

It's the same landers so I don't think that's the issue. Network URL is fine because both have the same domain name.
Can someone shed some light to why this is happening?

One offer might load slower than the other? That's the only reason I can think of.

Thanks Nigel. I thought about that as well. But when does a click register in Voluum?
When the offer loads or when it passes through click url?

The click will register when your tracking URL is first accessed.

Are you direct linking straight to the offer URL? i.e. Not using your own self-hosted landing page?

If you're direct linking then the sequence will look something like this in the simplest terms:

Your Voluum Campaign Tracking Redirect URL- CLICK REGISTERS HERE
Your Affiliate Network Redirect URL
Offer URL

As well at the speed of the redirect as Nigel mentions you'll also find that some networks have brokered offers instead of going direct to the advertiser.

This creates a chain more like this:

Your Voluum Campaign Tracking URL Redirect
Your Affiliate Network Redirect URL
Secondary Affiliate Network Redirect URL
Offer URL

Thus here you're introducing more bouncing around of servers for the user and a greater chance of losing them.

So, you mean you have a single campaign with one lander being used and two offers being rotated?

Nothing else in the path/rules?

The outgoing click is registered by Voluum before anything involving the network.

The difference here is definitely real but we need to consider confounding variables...

Same geo/traffic source, but what other targeting parameters come into play? Placements? Device types?

If your traffic is quite heterogeneous then this may just be chance. Check your other stats and see how mixed it all is. You might have 100+ devices and placement with few clickthroughs on many of them leading to a biasing of the clickthrough rates. If this is the case, it will even out over time and with optimisation of the campaign.

That is correct. Everything is the same, it's just the offer that's different.
To be exact, the only difference would be the Offer ID in the Network Offer URL.

I checked across the boards and the stats are consistent per hour, per OS, per brand, per placement, etc.

Right now the tally is:
Offer A: 20669 Visits, 5034 Clicks at 24.36% CTR
Offer B: 20215 Visits, 3540 Clicks at 17.51% CTR

I'm trying to figure out if the problem is with Voluum or is it a problem with the network.
I already sent an email to Voluum support but they are out of office till the fifth.

If this is still the same tomorrow and I still don't know why, i'll just follow the data and move on from it.

Just to 100% confirm, we are talking about clickthrough rate as recorded for the landers by Voluum, but looking at the stats for how many were sent to offer A vs offer B?

Definitely weird since this doesn't involve the network at all. The clickthrough is logged before Voluum considers where to next send the user.

Odd.

Yes, The Click Through Rate. It's probably just one of those unknown unknowns. I'll treat it as such and move on.

Thanks for the help guys

Yep.

Reset the internet, check if your cores are parked (BF4 joke), touch wood and make sure no umbrellas are open inside, then carry on :P
