So I finally am breaking out of direct linking and venturing into lander-based PPV.
This page pops over selected amazon URLs that have plenty of volume, except my CTR is 1.5%
The offer behind this is a penny auction based one.

Here's what was going on in my mind:
1) The presentation of the product is exactly as you could potentially find it on Amazon--except the price is slightly out of place (instead of free)
2) I borrowed the scarcity elements that Amazon uses in their other product listings and integrated it into my lander ("Only x left in stock - order soon.")
3) I added a 'click here' button at the bottom of the page to give a clear CTA, and I modeled it after the amazon buy button.
4) The headline color is the exact same color as the orange/yellows found on amazon itself. I used Instant Eyedropper to get the hex code of the color.
5) I added some believability and urgency by calling this sale a "limited special promotional offer"
The entire page is clickable, and it's very possible that the present clicks I received were accidental ones.
Maybe it's just me, but I'd be pissed if I clicked on that ad and it took me to a penny auction site. That doesn't mean it won't work though!
That's the thing dtonyv, they're not clicking!
It may be that it's just not believable. Kinda like "92 year-old grandma has the skin of a 25 year old!"
Have you split test the product?
I have this ipod touch, and a 40" TV

Add a javascript alert to get people's attention to the pop.
To get make it more plausible you could try to make the user believe that it's the manufacture of the product who is promoting it.
From my experience adding a trademark will make it more plausible (Apple/Samsung) and trowing in some specs can help as well:
- iSight camera
- 4-inch Retina display
When they don't click the page the it could be that the call- to-action" isn't clear or hard enough. A Java script alert like Zeno suggested could do the job.
My full attention is now on the first sentence "89% Off iPod Thouch 5th Gen" at the top, but you want his attention on the product/prize/continue button.
maybe it's just me being very short sighted here, but are people still massively interested in this? Most people have the functionality already as part of their phones, right? At least for me, I wouldn't need it even if apple was selling them for $5
