Choosing Your First Traffic Source

I've been reading a LOT of forums, finally decided I need to launch something by in the next 6 days (by Christmas), no more analysis paralysis! Would love to get thoughts from Finch (I know you're more Adult), Zeno (I think you've done a lot with gaming), Caurmen, Charles Ngo, Mr Green as well as anyone else who feels they have some relevant thoughts on the following two questions.

1. If you're brand new to AM: $500/month budget, and your main goal is to learn as fast as possible where would you suggest a newbie best cut his teeth in learning the ropes from a traffic source perspective heading into early 2015 and brief thoughts on why? For Mobile / for Desktop?
2. Now if I added two conditions to this question how would your answer to #1 differ? [Conditions being: no adult dating offers, sticking to desktop (no mobile to start)]
*Reasons for avoiding Adult Dating are morale concerns *Reasons for avoiding mobile right now, more difficult for me to spy and get inspiration, adds more variables making it more difficult to learn from as quickly being a newbie.

BTW with my spare time, I'm running through tutorials on:
A. Codeacademy: Learning HTML, CSS, Jscript, PHP
B. Watching/Practicing: Photoshop CS6 Tips on Banner/Creative Creation
C. Watching/Practicing: Dreamweaver LP creating
D. Forums, but I am falling into the trap of Reading vs. Taking Action (Analysis Paralysis)

Here's what I'm thinking the answers to my questions are:
1. Decisive (Mobile) / POF (Desktop) : Decisive: Because it's only going to get bigger, they have a friendly platform. It's more difficult for competition to spy/steal your campaigns. POF b/c it's affiliate friendly, budget friendly and there's a lot of support here for their platform.
2. Really not sure: Hoping you can provide some insights here.

*Really appreciate the thoughts here, I think this is one of the most overwhelming parts of being a Newbie, I think getting your feedback will give me the confidence to crack into heavy action this weekend!

Here's a good breakout but it's coming up on a being nearly a year old (so I'm not sure if it's still a good guide to work from on this topic), I'm looking through posts outside the newbie zone but I have a feeling they are going to be all over the map: http://stmforum.com/forum/showthread...t-to-x-xxx-day!

Well, if you want to stick to desktop traffic then PoF is more ideal.

You could also try pops/direct navigation. The combination of ZeroPark and Voluum is great for beginning due to the low cost, free tracking and cost integration, etc.

First thing you should know is there is no "RIGHT" traffic source.
People make money on almost all of them.

POF is a great start for WEB
Decisive is a great start for MOBILE
Exo is a great start for ADULT

So choose web or mobile and get started

I think you're overanalyzing.

Go with whatever Stackman said if you want suggestions.

Every traffic source has its pros and cons. Just take some action. You're not married to the traffic source you pick now.

Another piece of advice is "having moral issues" is going to be a disadvantage in affiliate marketing. Case in point I knew a guy who didn't like promoting some pin submit offers because he thought they were shady. He tried to make some other stuff work but couldn't. As soon as he was making $1k profit a day off the pin submits, his "moral issues" magically disappeared :-)/

Thanks for weighing in the thoughts guys! Appreciate it, Charles you have a valid point - I'm going to have to conquer that..

I 100% recommend to starting with mobile. The amount of traffic available and offer selection is growing on a daily basis. Get on the mobile wave. It doesn't matter what traffic source you chose, whether it's a DSP (decisive), Facebook, or Exoclick, they all have mobile options. They all are making affiliates very happy.
