Mobile: my stumble and fall log (6)

That click discrepancy is huge!

You should check Voluum and see how many IPs are duplicate, then make sure to look at gross clicks at your network. Most show unique clicks by default and this trips up almost every newbie.

Also check how many have actually been sent to the offer itself if you have any geo-redirection rules in place.

As for your campaigns... I think there's too much banner text and I would avoid the travel offer. It doesn't have the broad appeal of a utility offer so may be hard to market without experience and more useful targeting that pre-qualifies people as being interested in travel.

In Russia right now with all the economic sanctions and currency going downhill, I'm not sure people are too keen to travel to countries in the EU/US/etc...

I'd try multiple angles and if it still performs this poorly just drop it.

The Russian traffic issue is likely network related - I would point the finger at the affiliate networks dropping clicks. If it gets from Decisive to Voluum fine then the problem is not with Decisive (assuming it's not bot traffic, it is Russia).

Should update more often, but currently struggling to get stuff up and running.

- previous app install offer got paused (seems to be a trend with new app install offers)

- learned basic html and used Caurmen's lander tutorial to build my very first lander (a basic page with one quiz question)

- next deployed my lander in a pin submit offer where user could win free crates of beer
got one lone drunk conversion: spend $125 revenue: $17
offer got paused

- made banners for another pin submit offer - still waiting for approval on that (need to chase again, but the big delay is not a good sign I guess)

- found an offer during spying (again PIN submit... PINs seem the only ones I encounter in the wild). Tried running but got rejected by the traffic source because banners were too misleading (although these are the type of banners everyone seems to use) plus advertiser's lander had a popup which was also not allowed by the traffic source. Decided to leave this one for now, maybe come back to it later.

- AM advised to run a 'win iphone' PIN submit. Also switched to another mobile DSP this time. Made 10 banners and ran some initial quick data without lander but no conversions, so paused it to incorporate lander. Made quiz lander and asked for approval but didn't really get a clear yes/no answer. Going to try again and also register for another network I found has this same offer.

- got advised to run a supermarket voucher email submit offer. Made 15 banners and also quiz lander from the start this time. Got rejected by traffic source because the end URL was dead for them. Turned out the offer had gotten paused already. Trying to look for a similar offer I can plug into this. Not that easy because my creatives are very targeted and branded for this particular supermarket offer.

- another network advised me to run a supermarket mail submit offer as well, but one where user gets the option to choose from different supermarket brands. Made 12 banners and altered my previous quiz lander to suit this offer. Got rejected by traffic source because the advertiser's end URL shows a countdown timer which is not allowed apparently. Going to ask AM if advertiser could provide alternative page without the timer on it, plus need to look for similar offers i could plug into this campaign.

At the moment I'm largely frustrated and annoyed not being able to get something running. Just gonna keep trying.

Good thing I posted earlier today because it made me realize I could take my most recently rejected campaign and try launch it on a different traffic source instead. So went back to decisive and they nearly instantly approved it (bonus point for them).

Result: now running a 'choose your supermarket voucher' email submit offer in NL.

Having a hard time leaving it alone:
- after 10 mins I noticed my lander CTR was low (12%) while it's a very simple quiz question that I would assume 50% of folks to click through (with the other 50% being accidental banner clicks) so I changed the flow to have 50% of clicks bypass the lander and go direct to the offer.
- seeing no conversions, I found a similar offer on another network that was previously recommended and which would fit well in this campaign. I asked my AM to approve the creatives but could not resist and already plugged the offer into my campaign as well.
- also noticed one placement already spending about 4 times offer payout so blacklisted that one.

Now I'm going to leave it sit and run till tomorrow. It already spend $40 in 3 hours time with a payout of $1.6 / $1.85 so would have been nice to see at least 1 conversion, but given this is the first time I run such email submit offer, I'm also not sure how instantly conversions are supposed to appear.

Right after yesterday's post I got a friendly PM from a friendly STM member pointing out that I might want to check for bot traffic. So instead of feeding the bots during my sleep, I paused the campaign and went to bed.

This morning I played around with Caurmen's bot detection script HERE but was not able to get it to work yet.

Goal was to build another fresh campaign today but the 9-to-death job was too distracting and I ended up with only the angles and banners done, but the LPs still to do.

Keep on plugging away at it mate, you're making good progress.

How are you deciding on offers to run, DSPs to use, etc?

Seems like you're jumping from one offer/lander/etc. to the next pretty quickly, it may pay to slow down a bit and structure your testing on paper in some way.
