Suggestion: Subforum for "tracking" (cpv lab mainly, or tracking202 if people still use that (feel sorry for you!))
-------
As awesome as CPV Lab is, one of the major drawbacks that I keep stumbling upon is the fact that you can't pass 3rd party pixels based on a subid.
Our problem is that we have traffic with a ton of different sources, each wanting to optimize of course and some even preferring to run on a CPA basis. So far we've just ran based on a calculated CPA based off a frontpage conversion as opposed to an offer completion (which is a few steps down and that's where the $ is generated).
As you can imagine, this is not ideal (even though it works).
The only CPA network that I know of that could possibly support this is NeverBlue as they allow you to set a pixel for each particular 'site' you configure within their system.
XY7Elite and others using the - I believe LinkTrust - do have custom passback/callback functionality which is great when used with a custom-built system.
So the latter is what I'm considering but to the point where it would combine the subid tracking and pixel distribution in one.
So a custom solution would do:
http://cpanetworktrackinglink.com/of...ubid=123456789
--> user completes offer
--> http://mytrackingplatform.com/pixelfire?subid=123456789
--> my script looks up which traffic source the subid belongs to and fires the appropriate pixel for the traffic source and also registers a conversion
There's a slight potential complication with some offers/advertisers not being able to do either one of img pixel, js pixel or server-side pixel but I think I can work around that.
So, to get to my point, before I plunge in and set this up, I was wondering if there's a solution out there already. I know CPV Lab folks are coming out with a new product soon but I'm not sure if they'll support 3rd party pixel "distribution".
Any advice is welcome!
not sure what excatly your trying to do....but if i had to guess you are trying to fire a pixel based upon source?
with the latest cpvlab update you can have it fire multiple pixels....
and the "subid" would just be for you everytime someone visits your site via cpvlab a unique cvplab "subid" is generated
so just set up your offer and give every traffic source the same link....then in cpvlab put their "pixels" in so they will fire when the CPA offer fires the cpvlab pixel....
if I am not getting what your trying to do I might need a better example ......
but if you cant do this with cpvlab it can be easily done with has-offers.....I have done that just fine you can set it up various ways....like treat each source as an aff OR just use there "source" variable......
I have managed to track affs, and multiple traffic sources on the same offer....with has-offers......
the added bonus of has, its all hosted so it can handle a shit ton of traffic......and has an adserver built in....so you can give out tags to who ever you need to for both iframe and java
Hey polarbacon,
Thanks for the response. You did understand exactly what I meant, so thanks for the heads up. I'll email robert to see when they expect the next CPV Lab to come out, if it's going to be too long I'll get HasOffers, I've heard great things about it anyway so time to give it a shot! Much appreciated!
Using HasOffers to track?
Would exchange left kidney for laymen's guide to that.
I we hadn't invested so much into our own tracking platform I would definitely be using HasOffers. These guys have a crazy fast release cycle and are adding some pretty awesome features.
Prosper 1.7 now has a spot for placing a pixel for every traffic source you setup. It will then fire them during a conversion.
Right now, instead of firing a whole batch of pixels, it fires just the pixel from the traffic source that generated to conversion. The advantage of this method is that you are more likely to get the pixel fired before the user leaves the page and thereby giving you more accurate data.
