Is $900/mth realistic for CB appetiser, and other questions

Hi STM!

This is sort of my first real post since I joined a few days ago. It's sort of a hello to everyone-message combined with a few questions (so if this post is more appropriate somewhere else, please move it - thanks). I have been logging about 10+ hours each of the last few days and basically just trying to read anything that i might find even remotely interesting.

I initially found STM through BHW where I was doing a lot of research on how to start your first affiliate website. Since I started reading here (great content compared to BHW btw!), I have become interested in mobile and in particular the appetiser part of the mobile cookbook. Yesterday I got my approval for F5 and Decisive and I feel like I have a decent grasp of the whole thing by now so I am super excited to get cracking.

Now here's my question. I have set aside $1000 as the appetiser suggests and in 2015 I expect to be able to spend $900 monthly. Is that suitable or would you recommend that I start with something that cost less such as desktop-review-websites (I'm thinking Amazon)?

The way I see it is; As long as I suck it up and follow the methods that are proven to work in here, it is only a matter of time before I get the hang of it and start getting those magical green numbers (whether that will be in 1/3/6/12 months or however long). Right? - How long it take for you guys until you felt confident that you would be able to turn a decent amount of your campaigns into green numbers?

I am moving from Southeast Asia back to Europe in a few days and I am hoping to work in my home country throughtout 2015, while spending a good chunk of my salary learning something like this, so I can move back to the beautiful beaches here in SEA in one year's time and do internet marketing ;-)
At least that's one things I want to try in life - and in SEA you need much less money to survive than in Europe.

I have a few other questions as well. I have been looking through offers in F5 (I searched as suggested in the appetiser) and many of them have a [WAP]-tag in their name. Does that mean it is only for old school phones with WAP or?

Also if someone is targeting, or is from either Malaysia, Singapore or Indonesia, perhaps we can talk ideas?

Thank you,

Kingkong1000

I was worried about the same thing when I got started, man. Personally, I think that amount is more than enough. I would highly highly advise against making amazon review sites. I've done both and media buying is soooo much better. Don't be scared of losing money. Just jump in!!

Thanks so much for the advice! I think I might just need a kick in the butt to get started.. I'm in this weird mix of being amazed by the idea and excited to try it out but also in a feeling of disbelief as to if I can actually learn it without going homeless (haha).

I have been reading about people getting demotivated after a few months without their desired results so I am trying to prepare myself for that my setting realistic goals. Did you (or anyone else reading) set goals for yourself when you first started out?

I'm running a lifestyle and self-development and know exactly what you mean!
Here is the short version of important things you need to do for motivation and mindset:

- Understand WHY you want something, what drives you. It is obviously not because you love AM so much, and it is not really owning a lot of special paper with numbers printed on it
- Come up with some realistic things you want to do, kinda like rewards if you reach certain goals
- Baby-step the process, take pride and be happy about really small victories
- Connect with others in the same boat and build a social support networks
- Become aware and visualize of what your future will look like if you give up on this too early

To keep going you need motivation, that's true. But overtime it will get less and less, unless you love what you do. If you don't really love AM, you need some external support and a proper environment that pushes you when you feel you can't continue anymore.

If you are lucky and you hit a good campaign from the start, the excitement and money may be enough to motivate you. If not, you need something like a support group...the best are masterminds. But active masterminds with max 10 members, otherwise you get lost.

What I found that also works really nice is to convince a friend or 2 and start AM together. This will keep both motivated, like in a startup. You can share knowledge, campaigns etc with him, help each other, etc... Working alone also makes you lose motivation...but if you have a partner that you trust, it's much harder to give up and is more fun(unless he gives up first).

Thank you, both of you, for the advice! I have been looking for a way to NOT join the 9-5 when i graduate in january. I really cant imagine myself rotten away in a corporate office the next 40 years, so I guess thats my main motivation.

I like the idea of using either masterminds or getting a friend involved.. I guess the difficult part is choosing to do something so different from the norm, particularly long-term.

I'm thinking of dedicating myself to this for one year. I am very fortunate to be in a situation where I can choose to either do AM full time and spend around $900/mth or get a job and do AM on the side but then be able to spend $1500/mth on campaigns instead. Since I haven't launched my first campaign yet I'm not sure how much time people use daily in the beginning and which way I am more likely to learn faster.

WAP is for mobile traffic/offers. Can be an iPhone 6 plus or that $20 cheap phone from a convenience store.
