A Significant Milestone Complete!

Hey all,

I thought I'd share this non-IM success story with you all, since it's the *official* finale to a quite large chapter of my life.

I have been less active for the last few days due to a backlog of work after China and of course... my Saturday had a big event - finally graduated with my PhD!

I finished early in the year, defense and all, though postponed graduation several times for various reasons. But I can now officially use the Dr title in all capacities (not that I want to).

Check out my swag:

Cat photobombed us and then this eventuated:

Whatever you choose to do in life, give it your all and enjoy it! Carpe diem!

This guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Chu

This dude managed a budget of several billion dollars with the Energy department being the largest funder of science in the US. He was directly involved in curbing the BP oil spill crisis and helped tackle the Fukushima nuclear disaster. He demanded that he build a team of scientists at his discretion and basically smashed out one of the best DoE term plans (whatever you call the roadmaps the cabinet members have to produce) that others in the cabinet had ever seen.

Man, I was impressed! Otago certainly pulled out the best for me :-)
Reading the wiki page he is a serious dude!

"Beside his scientific career, Chu has also developed interest in various sports, including baseball, swimming and cycling. He taught himself tennis by reading a book in the eighth grade, and was a second-string substitute for the school team for three years. He also taught himself how to pole vault using bamboo poles obtained from the local carpet store."

Congratulations on your huge accomplishment Zeno! What was harder, becoming a super affiliate or getting your Phd?

12-16-2014 03:22 PM #35 vipinext (Member)

Congrats Dr. Zeno

12-16-2014 03:35 PM #36 prospect (AMC Alumnus)

This week my son ends the first session of his doctorate and he was really overwhelmed for 4 months! So, IMHO, doing a PhD and be as active as you have been on this forum is worth more than a Doctor title, I would suggest Super Dr. Zeno!

Congratulations and thanks for the great work on STM!

Both take perserverance and hard work.

I would say doing a PhD in physical chemistry is a bit more intellectually demanding than AM but they both have a lot of stress involved in different forms.
