Which tax form? American abroad with foreigner corp.
Hey guys. I'm an American living in Thailand operating through a Hong Kong corporation.
I just started to make some money and was wondering exactly which tax form I need to fill out for the networks? Most of them have been sending me an email when I sign up to do either the w9 or w8 form. But looking into it it seems I might have to do W-8Ben-E which seems to be for foreign corporations. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks.

I believe you need the W-8BEN, not sure about the E part but for me it was definitely W8 and not W9. If in doubt talk to your network, they will know.

if you plan to get paid in the name of the corp then w-8
one might ask though why you setup this corp in HK, I hope you are aware you will not be able to avoid any taxes by this method other than the 95k exclusion and to get that you would need to be employed by your corp...like all legal like..
if you are trying to do something shady, I would HIGHLY suggest you re-think that....unless you want 50% of your company revenue taken by the IRS and potential jail time for you.
Just sayin'

W-8BEN is the one you'd have to fill out for your HK corp. The W9 is for US-based affiliates or companies.

I had set it up a year ago with a range of purposes in mind, but don't really know the limitations of stuff. I have an accountant and I'm not trying to break the law, but there is hope that I can get around paying more taxes. It seems I might need to have a different setup to do anything more than the foreign income exclusion right?

Are you a US citizen?
If so, you're pretty much boned - or so I hear.
I'm sure you can operate your company just like anyone else but when it comes to money coming to you for personal use, the tax man will be unavoidable.

Yeah US citizen and we have is quite bad. Though there are tax strategies that can help, but that's more something that I'll need to get an accountant to look into, I really have no idea.
I more got the Hong Kong corporation, because it's more in my region (been living in Asia for 9 years) and with the idea that I could use it to get a Japanese visa in the future. As far as taxes go I don't really know if it will help me at all yet.
