I spoke with a former AM today from a legitimate network, who left their position to start their own product. To say the least, the conversation was a great intro from the AM perspective. They essentially told me that all Networks have internal teams that run the best offers for themselves and a few superstar affiliates. This way they keep the market tight. The rest of the offers go out to the affiliates all competing for the same offer. In so many words, he was steering me clear of affiliate marketing and was telling me it is just to crowded. This like any business you are starting, doesn't always feel good to hear, but I know everyone has their perspective.
He was going through the intricacies of huge affiliates with large bank rolls buying up ad spaces for a lot cheaper than regular affiliates, getting more data, and better returns. Thus squeezing out everyone on that offer.
My question - How can a beginner compete in such a crowded space? I know it's possible as I have followed a few success stories here.
I am fortunate enough to have another business that is seasonal and has given me enough startup capital to get going, just want to make sure I know who I will be playing kickball with.
Thank you.
Find a niche that they aren't interested in, be a better marketer, try angles and landers that are new, be an innovator, find trust worthy networks
Anyone else going to weigh in on this?
The bigger you are the slower you are and the smaller you are the nimbler you are.
As a beginner affiliate your main goal is learning the basics and getting your first profitable campaign no matter what.
Super affiliates could care less about learning the basics and getting just any profitable campaign. They seek campaigns with huge potential that they can automate and systematize.
What this means for you is there's potential in smaller volume niches, smaller more obscure traffic sources, and campaigns that require more manual labor and custom targeting. Basically doing the grunt work super affiliates won't do because it's not worth their time.
This is your competitive advantage
Don't let that sway you away from striking gold. The larger guys with big bank rolls do have leverage, sure. But don't forget, everyone had their start somewhere. Don't be afraid to innovate and test new angles. There's money to be made everywhere in affiliate marketing.
The world has changed,
no matter on your size,
Its belong to doers now..
Love the positivity here!
