Offer payout changed - What would you do? (12)

Offer payout changed - What would you do?

This happened to me a while ago on a particular offer that I had several campaigns built for. I was doing very well with it, good volume and about 300 % ROI. The offer payout was about 3 dollars, and I had been running at this rate for a good few months...

One day I decided to login to the network and just check out the stats, and noticed the offer payout was dropped to about 1.20 or so. Essentially the payout was slashed a little bit more than half, and I was never made aware of this change at all. I immediately contacted my AM and I asked him what happened and he was apologetic about it and explained that the advertiser cut their rate so they cut it network wide too.

Needless to say this AM is on my shit list and I have yet to run anything on that network again. I somewhat even feel I should be compensated and paid out on the rate that I was given at the time that I grabbed the offer links, I also did double check there was no network email announcing this rate change nor did anyone like my AM notify me. But anyways I shrugged it off and simply stopped working with them and especially this AM.. he currently works for another network at the moment...

What would you guys do in this situation?

This happens to me all the time. At least once a week. The worst is what happens to the tracker if you don't hurry up and switch the payout as soon as it drops. Messes everything up! I'd love to hear a super affiliate chime in on this one. Great question vidivo.

BAD Services,As an AM,I think it is the most important thing to contact with Aff about the this~

The advertiser has to make money too, they'll either cut the rate or start scrubbing leads.

Your AM should have notified you, but there's really nothing they could have done outside of that.

Did you ask for an exclusive payout? Did you search other networks (Sometimes, it caused by one affiliate on the network and the advertiser cuts the rate for everybody)? Are there any substitute offers available?

This happens all of the time especially with mobile app installs I'm doing right now.

I started with 1 offer that was on good payout and was converting well, after one week it got paused.
I switched to other offer - after 1 week the payout went down and make it unprofitable.
I split tested another 3 offers - payout of one of them changed just 1 day after.
And so on..

I don't know if this is happening in other niches so frequently, but I believe it is just part of the game.

Always test new offers and have backups in case things changes.

Noticed the same, a lot of offers get paused or somehow changed within days after I started running them.

This is happening, because the advertiser doesn't know how the traffic will back out. They start with what they think it will be and adjust accordingly.

The pauses can occur because of a lack of cap, bad quality leads, technical problems, they get enough downloads and go viral, the offer is just crap and needs to be shut down etc

It's part of the game

This is part of the game when it comes to running 'freebies' (apps, form submits etc.), it always has. Sucks, but completely understandable from an advertisers point of view. I mean, what do we do when we see a red ROI?

I've been doing carrier billing offers mostly for the past year or so. One thing I like about those is that the payouts are steady overall. After all, the enduser has been billed before any commissions are being paid.

Of course there are a few downsides to these offer types as well (regulations, change of flow), but yeah it's all about adapting.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that vidivo's problem is the payout cut itself which happens all the time and isn't really a big deal, just that he didn't get notified and in turn acted on false stats since he had the old payout set up in his tracker.

I don't know which tracking software you use and which platform the affiliate network runs on, but at least on Cake and HasOffers you can use dynamic parameters for the payout instead of fixed values in your tracker. That way you would've at least seen the payout cut in your stats.

Yeah, payout cuts are part of the game.

You do expect to be told about them and given 24/48 hours notice to be able to make arrangements though. That's a matter of respect (and professionalism) from the AM.

To not be told at all is really shitty. I can see why you'd shit-list them. Think I'd probably do the same.

definitely agree. I watch the payouts (AP) column in Voluum but I've had similar happen and stopped running with that network over it. It's really a deal breaker and without contact it seems like they're trying to get one over on you.

If a network can't send out a notice to all affiliates active/approved on an offer the moment they are made aware of a payout change... to me it just yells incompetence or "we use a really crappy system".

If pushing volume... I'd expect the AM to go out of their way to contact you to let you know. I mean, I would if I cared about the business relationship.
