Android device for spying/testing

Hi Guys,

I feel it will be easier if I get myself an android device for testing/spying (I plan on promoting app install offers).

But the past few years I've been on iOS so gotten out of touch with the android hardware.
Anyone could recommend me something?
And would a tablet instead of phone make more sense?

So it's just for spying/testing really. Therefore preferably below $200.

Thanks

Using Genymotion+VirtualBox on my Macbook Air. Don't have any physical device, just virtual. You could install any number of devices you like and any type/brand/os version. Using HMA you can spy in any geo you like. Or just use plugin to chrome/firefox to emulate mobile device. Works great.

Good tips right there.

Like you, I've been on iOS for years and purchased an Android a while back for spying purposes. Then I took the Genymotion/Virtualbox route shortly after that. Spying from your desktop is a much better experience, I'd say.

Be sure to check out Attila's thread too:

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Using Genymotion+VirtualBox is actually what caused me to start this thread.

Maybe it's true and years of being fed everything on a golden spoon by iOS has made me really dumb now, but I cannot find the Google Play store when using Genymotion, nor can I download anything from the Play store through their browser.

How do you get the Play store icon to appear on these emulators?
I tried to link the device to a google account but seems that option is not available.
Or do I need to get their paid version of the emulator?

I feel like I'm overlooking something glaringly obvious here.

By default Google Play isn't installed on any of the Genymotion images, but getting it on there certainly is doable:

Virtual Box + http://www.android-x86.org/

You can install it through step by step guide: http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutori...mac--cms-21526
And you get your very own virtual android device
