Help with Decisive campaign: Creative section--Upload from URL

I'm setting up my first mobile campaign and using the excellent video tutorial by Zeno. I think I've got most of it setup right but when I try to save the campaign I get an error message saying: "Missing mandatory field: "image_url".

This is a direct linking campaign so I don't understand why I need to upload an image.

Can anybody please tell me what I should do to get the campaign setup properly in Decisive?

Thank you.

You do need an image, that's your ad! Your ad then direct links to the offer.

Exactly, it's a display network not pops/redirects that can direct link to a landing page or offer.

No banner... no ad, no nothing!

Thank you @gritz and @Zeno. Coming from PPV where direct linking is by URL, this didn't make sense to me. I got an answer from my AM and Decisive yesterday and managed to launch my first 4 mobile campaigns.

I've changed my mindset from previously not wanting to expose my ignorance in forums with basic questions, to doing whatever it takes to get answers. I used to try to figure everything out on my own and waste lots of time but IamAtilla's post on Charles Ngo's blog gave me a new perspective.

I got one ad rejected by and Decisive they said to check for re-directs in all countries because it's leading to an adult site. How would I check for redirects in all countries?

Your new video was so incredibly helpful Zeno. Without it I think it would have taken me 10x longer to get my first campaigns up. I REALLY appreciate it and look forward to more. Can I suggest a whole series on mobile for newbies?

A series of videos?

Sounds like a plan.

FYI for geo-redirection what I do is this:

1) Add your offer i.e. affiliate link to Voluum

2) Add another offer called "XXX Passthrough" and as the URL use that of the offer page directly - no affiliate URLs!

3) Make a campaign. Set the default path to link to XXX Passthrough.

4) Add a rule: If from Country X and OS = Android (for example), then have it link to the affiliate offer and/or your landers then the offer.

This very basic rule will stop out-of-geo clicks from being sent to your affiliate link and bounced to a non-compliant page.

Thank you for your answer @Zeno, I'll give that a try.

A series of videos would be so helpful and your first one did a great job of showing exactly how to setup campaigns. I liked that you showed us Cake, Hasoffers, and "others."

i am still a newbie myself, but i am a little more ahead of you as i have launched several campaigns, played with different tracking systems etc.. the reason i say this is to give you a piece of advise and you can take it with a grain of salt. whenever you are setting up this campaigns don't do everything with the end goal being the priority, what i mean by this is the following:
don't get ahead of yourself thinking you will kill it and just thinking about the conversion, to get a conversion or many conversions you need to have many things in check, and based on my limited experienced i have noticed that its better to take it one step at a time, first focus on learning one tracking system, one traffic source and one aff network software. After that first learn how to get a high ctr and low cpc on your banners, after that focus on doing the same in your landers (if any, and you should) and finally focus on getting a high CR, if you got a high ctr and low cpc and the landers are the same and users are making it all the way to the offer and conversions are low, it means most likely your angle is not good, at that point you go back and try a different one.

bottom line don't be jumping around, and take it one step at the time in the chain of events leading to the conversion.

thats my 2 cents.

Thanks for your advice and tips @yohn1985. I appreciate any help I can get and your advice is sound and how I approach any paid marketing.

For this first campaign, my main goals were to see if I got tracking setup and working properly and to see how the offer, tracking, and traffic source worked together.
I wasn't expecting to make a profit on the campaign, just gathering data and learning how mobile works.

Your 2 cents is the truth!
