Hi!
So I got me a sexy pin submit offer, do I bother testing it on wifi traffic if the offer allows it?
I heard from a friend that almost always wifi ain't profitable for pin submits and wanted to ask for your opinion!
Thanks!
Test it. Test it. Test it.
Adivity is spot-on. You never know until you test.
Pin submits can be really badass for monetizing Wifi traffic, but of course a lot comes down to your traffic source / angle combo.
Test it!
A lot of media buyers go for the "easy" money and only buy carrier, that means wifi can be bought for cheap.
1) If the network/publisher allows it, separate campaigns for carrier and wifi with different bids (of course lower for wifi), else the carrier only buyers will outbid you easily.
2) If the network/publisher doesn't allow it, then a cheap bid for mix of carrier/wifi can be profitable too if cheap enough.
The problem buying unsegmented bulk traffic is that the EPC difference between each carrier and wifi is sometimes like $80 to $1, but the standard % of carrier/wifi is the other way around, like 85% wifi and 15% carrier. So to find the right bid valid for all segments is very hard.
The Key for case 2 is to have your own filters/routing so you send carrier to the pin summit offer (or even better, each carrier to the best pin submit offer for it) and then wifi to an offer better for wifi. That way you can bid low as you are getting mix, but then optimize it on your side, that will allow you to outbid your competitors that do not do it either because they don't have the tools or are just lazy about it.
Buying bulk traffic and segmenting it on your end (or at the affiliate network end if they give you that tool) is the best way to get the most from your traffic buys without going for the high bids war for the best performing carrier only.
The best trackers like
Also for our affiliates, we at Kimia have what we call the Matrix, that is a free tool where you can setup the traffic segmenting/routing the way you want on a very easy way. It's just an IF THEN ELSE rules setup with drop down menus like:
IF iPhone AND Vodafone THEN Offer X ELSE fallback campaign
IF iPhone AND Wifi THEN Offer Y ELSE fallback campaign
etc
After you set the rules, it will end generating a single campaign url for you to buy bulk unsegmented traffic, we do the all the segmenting and routing on our side either based on your own rules or on templates already filled by us.
