Hi Everyone,
I think it would be interesting to post whatever affiliate networks or traffic source that have a media buying department.
I find it odd that most network's are also your direct competitor, and could scrub or steal you traffic source if they can find it.
TJ for the win!
TJ / Exo and nearly all the mobile ad networks.
While some are more transparent about it than others, pretty much all of them.
Some will try and tell you that it's just to "test offers and hand over the best ones to the affiliates, so they have to test less themselves" or sth, but that's mostly bs.
Even if they don't have a dedicated in-house media buying team, there's always the chance of a rogue AM running campaigns in his/her free time etc.
In my opinion, while this definitely sucks, instead of being paranoid and worrying about it too much your energy is better spent on accepting it as a fact and simply outworking those guys.
Perhaps it's paranoid but everything I get a campaign going I lose the traffic and have to start again. I'm not sure if this is someone stealing the traffic either from the Affiliate network or an external media buyer which is far game.
I've working before as a advertiser using affiliates as some affiliates can keep offers going for 12 months.
I think it partly my own fault for not using double meta tag refresh on my tracking urls (Rookie mistake)
Yep also have their own media buyers. Kiss My Ads run alot of third party offers.
I have once spoke to affiliate manager who was before affiliate...
I asked him now that he have all the data why not running
campaigns on the side?
he said.. yea you right I should do it..
the main reason I think he didnt do it because he become lazy..
I have disabled all my Meta Refresh because speed is most important in mobile.
However, I worry now that I will regret it later.
The tradeoff is between higher ROI now by disabling (double) meta refresh => quicker redirect with 302
and
longer running campaigns by enabling double meta refresh => more click loss but campaigns run longer, because Networks can't steal the campaign.
Anyone experienced with this?
Or am I just paranoid?
Other solution is to buy SSL and install it on your server. No more referee to aff network will be sent
You seem to forget that most networks have long-lasting relationships with their pubs and that they make pure profit on every single one of your conversions. Once they have an offer in, they have profit margins around 20%. Are they going to steal your landers? 99% of them are crap or stolen anyway, 1% is genuine if they recognize it. Even if they steal your lander, you still have an advantage because you have all pieces of the puzzle.
A lot of networks have their own offers, and it's not just some bs story that they need to test their own offers. If they don't test their own offers and optimize them to a somewhat decent epc, none of the bigger affiliates will push any serious volume to it. It's like you would take one of your landers and ask Mr. Green to run it for you on a 20k budget per day. Doubt that's going to happen.
At the end of the day their profits from you, the affiliate, outweighs their own media buying team by a lot.
