I ended up testing the waters with a generic approach, a dating one and a gaming one and all the campaigns are separated in wifi-app, wifi-ste, mobile-app, mobile-site
I attached all the screenshots, not sure where they will show up.
Here is the update on the banners the gaming ones got denied, no idea why all of the other ones are running, and the dating one is approve but has no data coming in no idea why either.
My AM told me not to run wifi traffic even tho it doesnt say it anywhere in the offer, he just says that wifi traffic sucks which i completely disagree because most people download stuff on wifi anyways and for my game angle most people would be playing games on wifi so i am losing lots of potential traffic, I already started another thread on that cause i think he is giving me bad information. I have applied to some more networks to run the same offer, one got approved and i am waiting for confirmation on the offer, and still waiting on F5 response which i hear have lots of mobile offers.
So i ended up pausing all the wifi ones, which by the way were getting lots of clicks compared to the mobile ones. Which today so far just gotten a grand total of 2 click.
I could post more screen shots and give more info if needed, i started the campaign yesterday so i am still waiting on more data to roll in to start cutting stuff.
As soon as I get some real data i will post a screenshot of my decisive tracking part.
I know that this is not nearly enough data as i started running this today, but the unexpected happened
- Looks like this thing is real
Grats on the conversion!
Good luck !
I have a question. Do you think you should shorten your angle's wordings?
I think it's too long to capture readers' attentions.
Please feel free to comment .
Hey dude!
Good start and good luck!
Congrads on the conversion too
Keep it up!
@adrianegerrard this is what i think with regards to that. I am still a newbie and I think that i should try all possible ways and collect data. As i start cutting banners i will add new ones with different wording, angles, lengths, images you name it, and which ever one does best i will separate into its own campaign and make variations of it.
1. What banner sizes are you trying?
2. Are you split testing multiple CPA Networks?
3. Definitely run WIFI -- your AM hasn't a clue (FYI: this offer works best on WIFI, because yes people download stuff on WIFI more!)
@IAMAttila Thanks for replying man. I am using 320 x 50 banner sizes they are attached on my first post. I am waiting on a second network to give me the go ahead to run this offer with them all of the other networks i am signed up to dont have this offer. I am also waiting for F5 to hopefully approve my application and see if they also have it.
As far as my AM I have tried to reason with him but he paused wifi on his end so i dont run it, the guy is just out of this world he thinks he knows it all. I tried telling him yesterday again to let me run some wifi traffic to this offer yesterday and he totally ignored me. I told him that i could understand it it was a pin submit but an app download. Which pisses me off cause i was getting some nice traffic from the get-go on wifi. My only hope is that i can run this offer on another network with a good manager cause this dude completely ruined this particular network for me, and its a decent one too.
He can't pause "WIFI" on his end. It doesn't work that way.
Since you are running 320x50 your angles text might be way too long to cram it into that space. People are lazy to read, shorter angles have been proven to work better on small banners like 320x50.
Well he did, he paused it on his end, when he noticed i was sending wifi traffic i was out driving and told if you dont pause it I will pause on my end and he did. The guy wont listen. I am at my J.O.B today as soon as I get home i will work on some more short banners and try to make the wording shorter.
Another thing is, i been trying this dead battery on dating angle, basically my idea is this: dont miss a call from your date cause of dead battery, download this
kind of an angle, and same with games: games draining your battery? Download this...
But every time i set in my creatives dating as a subcategory or games as a subcategory the ad wont run at all, is there anything i am doing wrong? I just attached a screenshot of what i am talking about.
Thanks in advance bro!!
I don't think you should choose the subcategory dating already at least. You don't know where it can convert, you are reducing your traffic too much. I don't know I might be wrong
I have one that is completely general, then i created as a Test one of dating and one for gaming, again these are extras, for extra testing. But for some reason when i mess with the subcategories the ad wont run at all.
This is where i am at so far. I am following the appetizer so i dont think i can cut banners until 15 dollars are spent, which is going really slow. Also i got one of those 4 campaigns rejected which i havent been able to get them to approve again, i removed the offending banners and nothing, its like it doesnt go back to pending not sure what else to do on that.
I also added 12 new banners on a separate campaign, with completely different banner styles, i just cloned the one that got the conversions and put the new banners in there and that one is pending approval at the moment, so i am testing around 25 "different" banners all at once, perhaps that is too many?
Any suggestions, what am i doing right, what am i doing wrong???
Another update.
Lets see if i can put all this into words as i am a little confused at the moment so i will try my best.
I believe I have made some newbie mistakes and i have also done things out of confusing cause of reading conflicting information, below are my latest screenshots of which i will talk about now.
First newbie mistake I think i made, i went and targeted other GEOs, my reasoning being the offer its a very low one paying .25 cents and me having 500 of which 450 are left at the moment at Decisive would be plenty to test a few GEOs at once, so here are the details on that. I hit up my AM and asked for top countries doing volume on this particular offer as I was running New Zealand just because it was in English and it was pretty cheap on the Decisive planner, when my AM came back with the countries none of the countries was New Zealand, so i thought to myself this could be a good or bad thing. I keep on targeting NZ but proceeded it to get a trial of wrw to get some ideas on banners which by the way i wasnt too far off. So ripped and couple and modified them in PS as they are looping many times and Decisive doesnt like that, and translated them to Spanish and targeted argentina, peru, chile and spain all of which were top performers in my AMs suggestions. I uploaded a total of 7 banners, this I believe is a mistake, to many GEOs without the offer being optimized... can someone please how bad of a mistake this is?
Next coming up i will post about my confusion on cutting stuff out and some other mistakes I believe I made. Again I would highly appreciate it if the mobile experts could jump in and eat me alive with critics
Well, wading through that data didn't really reveal much.
If you are going to test so many countries in parallel then I would test fewer banners and focus on a few angles, get some data, and see which countries perform better.
Then, you can focus your testing there and find better banners/angles/pubs and translate that data over to other campaigns that you resurrect for testing.
At list point im kind of stuck and not sure where to go next, not sure if i should just pause the less promising campaigns and try to optimize the other ones. Or how to even optimize..
In other words im not sure how to fix this mess
Pause the campaigns that are doing worst overall.
Then focus on optimising placements on the remaining 2-3 i.e. kill off those that aren't profitable, have spent 2-3x payout with no conversions, CPAs too high, etc.
Then test more banners/angles.
I'd recommend being quite ruthless at this point: pause any campaigns that have spent more than about $3 without any conversions, and focus on the campaigns you have left.
That's not the approach you should normally take, but given you now have so many campaigns running it's important to cut down to a manageable number and work from there.
Also, start taking notes on anything that works or doesn't - angles, geos, placements, banners.
This is a learning phase - it's vital you extract all the information you can.
Something that has been bugging me and I am not sure what to do about it, what do you do when you have 25 pages of sites and they are all fighting for your traffic, i mean that is a lot of money that it would take to send traffic to all of those sites isnt it? Do you just go around and blacklisting a bunch of them to get it down to a more manageable level or just leave it?
Look at the attached example:
I think there is no shortcut to this.
Yes the spend will add up due to the number of sites but there is no other way to know if any of them will be profitable or not.
I made the mistake of cutting a bunch of them thinking it was a bad idea to leave them all running. Thanks man
Just to give closure to this follow along.
Lessons learnt here:
1- Dont start with many Geos all at once, specially if you are a newbie
2- Dont cut placements too soon otherwise you wont have any traffic left to optimize your creatives and your campaign will die
3- If an offer is not converting on a specific Geo, specially when you AMs tell you that your Geo is not on the top converting Geos, dont spend weeks trying to make it work. Still learning where to draw that line.
4- I did however learnt, a lot. I learnt how to optimize campaigns and am still learning.
5- I learnt to create and modify landers that got me conversions
6- I can now create banners in minutes
7- Learnt the important of getting cheap clicks and how decisive works and still learning
8- Learnt to think so hard about angles that i even dreamed about me thinking of them (no lie)
9- learn tracking very good and learnt how to use
10- Reinforced what everyone says - Stay in one campaign and one traffic source <--- This is what made me stay on this campaign so long, i didnt want to quit.
Final Thoughts:
spent about 100 dollars
got 22 conversions at .25 cents each
yes i lost a lot of money (so what?)
With what i learnt here i when to a second campaign and in day one i already got placements that are green and overall i am doing around 50% ROI on day two.
Thanks to all that answered my newbie questions and helped me in this thread.
P.S - I will come back with another follow along soon where i will CRUSH it.
That is how you learn! You invested into your education. Keep up the learning and success will soon shine down upon you!
@iamattila
By the way i read a guest post you did on NGOs blog yesterday and you completely smashed it bro. Nothing but gold nuggets all over.
I did use landers for this campaign, I used some i built from scratch and another one i found here in the forum that i think stackman posted a while ago that he used to run a test in a survey like fashion. The lander rights to a db recording the answers that people picked.
Well i took that one and modified it completely, I changed all the wording around, used different pictures that i edited with photoshop, created a database for it and this is the angle i used maybe it can give someone ideas, also i added a javascript i found online and modified it to suit this lander where it counts down from 1 minute saying the offer is going to run out and after the minute if the person is not done it redirects them to the offer, and thats all.
