STM Whistler, Canada (After ASW 2015)

AHEM. Snow enthusiasts of STM.. get ready!

This year after ASW, STM is hitting WHISTLER

STM will be having a Vegas bash as well, but details on that later in Nov.

WHISTLER DATES >> Jan 22 - 24

A group of STMers will be hitting Whistler after ASW to get some fresh powder runs and relaxing hot tub time.

There will be a breakfast for everyone to hangout and meet, and then 1 big night time bar session. Rest of our time in Whistler will be shredding the hills!

We’re still deciding upon hotels but these few mentioned below will make up a central base around the Mountain Square in Whistler. All of them are: close by each other, the main village and right beside the lifts!

HOTELS RECOMMENDATIONS (due to hangout proximity)
- The Westin Resort & Spa
- Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre
- Mountainside Lodge
- Crystal Lodge & Suites
- Executive - The Inn at Whistler Village

Edited the map a bit here to show you the central STM base

@hannah i challenge you to a downhill race!

If you’re interested in sponsoring the Whistler hangout get in touch with us as soon as you can

Hannah is so going down!

You are on, and you will lose haha.

But seriously, there is a Super G (which is about as close as most people will get to a downhill) on the 22nd for anyone who's interested in doing a fun, fast race that has a ton of prizes (plus a free beer)! I'll be doing it for sure, but there are always people there with little to no racing experience, and it does actually own to go basically super fast down a hill without having to worry about other people at all.

11-02-2014 12:06 PM #19 kabouter (Member)

Affiliate Summit West is Jan 18-20

STM Whistler is Jan 22 - 24

Which gives 1 day travel and calmness before Whistler!

Whistler here I come! It's all about the powder, peak to creak run and then the apres ski! Maybe spend a day in Van City before heading up to Whistler. How are people getting to slopes? Bus, car pool? Look forward to seeing everyone!

not sure yet. im not too far away from Whistler. I'll probably fly to Vegas, get home then drive up to Whistler.

... or better yet, drive to Bellingham WA, fly to Vegas, then drive from Bellingham to Whistler. flights will be much much cheaper if not going through Canada

Would LOVE to see a NHL game if there is one

Heck Yeah!

11-19-2014 11:38 PM #26 gansel (Member)

Unfortunately no NHL games on those dates. Closest one is on the 27th. There is a frozen lake in whistler if anyone wants to make there own hockey game haha.

11-19-2014 11:46 PM #27 hannahmcintyre ()

Yeah, the Canucks schedule is really weird this year, there's multiple stretches where they have 5-6 days off, and unfortunately this trip falls in the middle of those days. That said though, for anyone who really wants to see an NHL game live, it could be worth spending a few days in Vancouver after Whistler, the city is definitely worth a visit to those who haven't been before for a few days.

11-20-2014 12:07 AM #28 gansel (Member)

Also one thing I can suggest is the vodka room in whistler. So much fun..

Glad you didn't break your leg in the end.
Yeah, it's part bad luck part me being an idiot.

Anyway, I'm going to be racing tomorrow morning. If anyone else wants to join, as long as you're over 19 and have a helmet you're welcome to, it's a Super G so it's nice and fast, but it's a masters Super G so you don't really have to worry about going so fast you're going to die. Easiest way to do it is to actually just pay the $35 on the hill, but if you want to save $5 and do it before midnight tonight you can sign up online here. Either way, at the top of Garbanzo Express (or "Garbo") there's a hut (it's impossible to miss, from the top of the lift you go straight ahead about 100 feet and it's on the right hand side) to go in and register, sign your waiver and pick up your bib. You have to be there before 9:45 IIRC.

It's honestly a great way to try something new if you've never raced before and want to get to go fast down a hill without having to worry about anyone else being on it.

If you guys are around, I'll be in a red jacket with purple pants, and a white helmet with red goggles.

Now to see if Whatsapp will install on my phone...

Thanks everyone for coming.

This was an experimental style meetup and was so awesome! Had 30 or so snow enthusiasts make it out, got to go boarding with bunch of different people. Weather could have been better, was a bit rainy but you can't win them all.

We'll be doing it again next year

Did the Stackman-HannahMcIntyre Downhill Ski Race happen?

@stackman, post some of your photos!

02-01-2015 01:48 PM #38 hannahmcintyre ()

It was definitely lots of fun!! Unfortunately I didn't get to meet as many of you as I wanted to, but I did catch up with some of you, and that was pretty awesome.

Sorry about the rain, as well. I swear it usually never, ever rains in January, that's just exceptionally bad luck.

Hannah, you are forever in my phone as "Hannah Montana" as I was unsure of your last name until now. However, I like it and kind of don't want to change it? Sad we didn't get to meet up and glad you're ok!

02-02-2015 03:40 PM #40 Jaimmie (Member)

Here are some pictures to really commemorate the trip

I took some really shitty pictures when it comes to capturing the beauty of this place - conditions were not the best for january but people who stayed longer have some better photo ops.

I am wearing the same ski suit i've has since I was 11 and i'm pretty proud I can still fit it.

Haha awesome, I think you should keep it for sure.

I totally screwed up and didn't realize that I could go back and see individual chat windows for a while, so I totally missed your message until like after the meetup was over, sorry

The photos are great! Looks like you had a ton of fun
