banners VS angles?

Hi following the mobile appetizer guide, just want to ask some advice for better testings(better conversions).

ONE angle per campaign + 6-8 different banners?

OR

ONE banner per campaign + 6-8 different angles?

Have read some forum posts and guides around , some recommending to stick to one angle and try different banners. However, there are some which also says that Angles are the most important, hence, test more ANGLES.

I plan to test 8 different angles on one banner and then test one angle for 8 different banners. Lastly, select the better angles(those that converts) and banners from there. Am i on the right track?

Angles are indeed crucial so you should test more than one.

However, banners also have a large impact on both CTRs and CVRs so you need a balance here, whereas you seem to be going for polar ends of the spectrum.

I would suggest 8 different angles (make 1 campaign for each angle, well 4 I guess if splitting by wifi/site/etc.) and 3-5 very different banners for each angle.

You need not test all 8 angles first...

If you do 8 angles and 1 banner then you are absorbing a lot of risk by assuming that banner style is going to perform. Similarly if you test 8 banners with 1 angle what if the angle sucks? At the end of the day you may have discovered 15 different combinations amongst a total of 64 that don't work and will leave the remaining 49 untested.

Thanks for the suggestion zeno! So would that mean 4 different angle for 4 different campaign and for split test by wifi/site etc on 3-5 different banners?

Here's an example campaign structure:

Angle 1
-- WiFi / Site
---- 4 banners inside campaign
-- WiFi / App
---- 4 banners inside campaign
-- Carrier / Site
---- 4 banners inside campaign
-- Carrier / App
---- 4 banners inside campaign

The text in red are the individual campaigns in Decisive.

If you are tracking things properly (e.g. using Voluum) you can potentially get away with running Wifi+Carrier and all placements in one campaign, but you will need to know how to dig deep into the data. When starting out, better to split.
