Hey,
Don't know if this should go here or in adult but my traffic source is SEO so I figured to start here. Sorry if that's wrong.
So I have a niche adult tumblr that gets 150k unique search hits a month. Currently, I'm only running one offer because it's on tumblr and I don't want to get banned.
The offer is shitty, chaturbate white label, but it's backing out enough to justify migrating the tumblr to a hosted wordpress and test better offers.
Anyone have insights on how to do this without killing my SEO?
The intent is to start buying traffic if my offers justify it, but I'd like to test offers on my free traffic first, since the volume isn't bad.
I'd appreciate any insight.
I'm not posting the domain name because, again, it's adult and I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but happy to share it and more specifics. let me know.
Thanks!
The best way its to redirect your traffic to the offer using a domain not the real offer link. Set that domain to nofollow and this will help you not to kill the seo.
Pretty sure you can't move over to wordpress. Why would tumblrr allow you to move your site from them to a competitor?
you import a tumblr with wordpress.
is it on tumblr.com domain or your own domain mapped to tumblr ?
I have tested popunders with adult dating offers from plugrush and traffic was from thumblr sub domains
It was Very, very poor quality
it's on my domain mapped to tumblr. presently, i have a chaturbate white label as a sub domain of my domain: cams.mysite.com. I have 300x250s that direct link to the white label and they average 500 clicks per day at a .5% conversion rate (revshare so these are not email leads, they're users spending dollars. The rev fluctuates.) The chaturbate revshare is very low. I might be able to scale the organic ad clicks by 50% through testing creative and position. I would love any tips on scenarios that pay better than chaturbate.
This is how I see the next steps:
1. lmigrate to word press. (i found what looks like a solid guide to this without wrecking SEO)
2. spit-test offers and creatives and squeezes. keep it to one more cam offer (jasmine or streamate) and an adult dating offer.
4. pick off winning creatives and landers and use a test budget to drive traffic directly to those funnels.
The short version: See if there's opportunity to incubate offers on my organic traffic, optimize them, and migrate them to paid traffic.
ok, so to not kill your current seo, should be possible to retain it all...
Crawl the current site while the domains still on tumblr to get all the URLs.
Import to self hosted WP, crawl on there to get all the URLs.
Match up, any missing Urls then 301 to most appropriate page.
Should be minimal lost seo value.
Damn, I just typed a long ass reply but from some reason it wasnt posted aaarrgghhh

To sum up what I initially wanted to post :
1. the way hiro99 suggest is the only way of actually stand a chance in retaining the traffic. Since you use your own domain already, you need to copy the whole url structure when migrating it, and 301 redirect the remainers. I have had this work for me in some cases, but this is a hit or miss, I also killed a few sites this way in terms of organic traffic. With google, you never know whats gonna happen until you test it. Keep in mind that the whole code of the pages will change, you will move away from tumblr so you might loose some SEO juice too... its really a hit or miss.
2. MONETIZATION : cams and dating are still your best bets, but in case you have good GEO structure on the site, you might also want to try selling some paysites. I dont know whats the niche of your sites, but for example twistys.com sells well sometimes on babe traffic, you might want to try something from ddfcash.com in case you have the right audience for high end hardcore productions, or try some network style reality sites like nastydollars.com, or try to push it a bit and promote something from kinkydollars.com. A good supplemental product is the virtuagirl from totemcash, it looks pretty silly on the first look but that product retains like crazy and they sell well to european traffic too.
3. testing offers on your own traffic and then moving them to paid traffic can be a good idea but it usually isnt of much use from a simple reason, you will be testing with a limited audience on one site/placement. As soon as you move it to a different site, you will be dealing with a completely different group of users and the funnel might just bomb completely. Im not telling its not gonna work, lets say you find a combo that is absolutely killing it on your site, so chances are it should work decently on another sites too. But dont be surprised if you take a winning combination based on your own traffic tests and it fails on another source. Another problem will be the limited volume of your site, you get 5000 visits per day, if you break it up by GEOs there really isnt much left to work with.
Pure seo you should be able to retain almost all with the correct process. Crawling, buy one off on botify if you don't have screamingfrog
So do the migration and then crawl with botify or screamingfrom to make sure I didn't break anything and repair broken links?
Crawl first on "tumblr" so you have all source Urls.
Move the site, then recrawl to get all destination Urls.
Any missmatch between source and destination, redirect with a 301 the "source" to the "destination".
Ideally on WP you then block category/archive/author pages, leave tags free if you have tags on posts. If not choose one to allow as the "crawl path" and block the others.
