What is the most efficient way to resize and compress images without losing quality?

Hey, so I've learned a lot about different sources for obtaining awesome creatives to try on my POF campaign. However I tried uploading some and the POF auto resize really does NOT work well. Then I tried resizing on my own and the quality came out horrible. In addition, when I just change the file size the quality goes down. What is an effective way to do this? Up till now, I had just been using the pictures from a thread provided here on STM and they were all sized perfectly..like these ones:

I just use picresize to do it. I would crop it first then size it to the dimensions that i want.

I normally use Photoshop's Crop, Resize, and Save For Web functions.

But when you crop the photo then resize it, don't you find a lot that it'll be crazily disproportionately stretched either horizontally or vertically?

Just tried out kraken.io. It's really awesome. $5/month gets me all the power I need.

You should crop keeping the same proportions.

You should always upload ad images to any advertising network in the exact dimensions required.

Letting a system auto-resize and crop your critical ad creatives is sheer madness. Don't do that.

Crop and scale to the right size in Photoshop and if you need to compress the file, use kraken.io, hands down.

paste your image in ps, then ctrl t, and you can move your image around to the right location.when ready to scale down it's size, hold shift as you drag the corner of your image and it will scale down proportionally.

This is if you don't want to crop the image. If you want to crop, then crop first then do above.
