Managed Buys Vs Self- Serve Mobile traffic

I would really appreciate any inside on this. I have been struggling get traffic for mobile pop traffic and found a
few sources on Linkedin but almost all are managed buys. I don't have the budget to commit to $1000 plus without even
knowing if its going to be worth it which brings me to my question.

(1)From you seniors, is it safe to assume that managed buys is an indication of quality...?
(2)What would be the best way to go about this ...?

Thanks!

(1) no
(2) optimize as fast as you can. which can be a pain since you're not able to do it yourself.

for me, managed buys didn't work out. i do think you can make it work but i simply didn't have the time and will to put the effort in it.

Managed buys can be either GOLD or a BUST. Often they have a handful of huge placements that will either eat your budget or convert like crazy.

Managed buys can be a pain in the ass...long waiting times to get them to do optimizations, no support over weekends and the risk that they run campaigns internal.

My advice would be to exhaust self serve sources first, optimize your campaigns there and then selectively go for managed buys.

Thanks deondup,

seems i have to stay away form this option now especially given that i do not
have the budget that i can afford to lose arg

My most profitable placements that were making 80% rev had a few misunderstandings and left
the traffic source so i have been struggling to get another pop traffic source to work but its
going well, Zeropark is just about breakeven and Decisive bumped really bad
