I am currently running a campaign that is doing really well on a few sources but in order for me to reach the $500-$1000 a day marker I need to expand to other traffic sources.
The problem is I am currently only displaying my ads on a few niche placements on my current traffic source.
1. Is there a list of traffic sources that show their placements?
A. If not is it worth finding one myself?
2. What do experienced guys do in a situation like this?
If you're doing web traffic you may be able to find similar placements by using similarsites.com or alexa.com.
It'll show you websites similar to whatever you enter.
Pretty sure there are similar things for apps, but I don't know any resources for that off-hand.

Use tools like allthegold suggested and find similar sites that will serve to a similar demographic.
If your current sites serve a particular purpose, provide information for a particular problem, etc., search for sites that do the same.
Then, inspect their pages and find out how their ads are being served. Find the image URLs and click URLs of all ads on the pages (and refresh + check through VPNs) to find out how they monetise and go from there.
