Pulling The Trigger Too Early On A Traffic Network?

Hey everyone,

I'm posting this question as I need an opinion on what I should do next. So thanks in advance!

Over the past month and a half, I've been running ads on a traffic network (unsure if I should say the name?). I've spent about $1k and currently around $100 in loss. Not much I know in spend, but I was prepared to spend much more. I tried increasing the bid price by 50%. But all that would do was take me to loss territory with the same volume of traffic. Hence my dilemma.

Do you think I'm pulling the trigger too early by moving to a different traffic source or should I increase the bid to find out what the highest bidder is paying in the geo/find out how much traffic is there and then find an offer to match?

I say this because I've got lots of learnings from the network. However, time for me is crucial.

Thanks.

So, when you scale the bids, you are receiving higher priced traffic but CTRs and CVRs don't improve, leading to you just losing more money?

Certainly out the network - because you can then get advice from others who have used it and their experience scaling may be useful.

You could also contact the network's support with your dilemma and ask for some advice with scaling.

How much optimisation has been done? I.e. aside from banners/landers/offers, can you optimise by placements?

Thanks Zeno. Much appreciated.

The network is Leadbolt.

That's right - CTR and CVR remain the same. I assumed increasing my bid would result in more traffic. It hasn't worked out that way. This has me questioning whether I can generate sufficient traffic through Leadbolt to generate $xxx a day. Maybe (probably) I'm doing something wrong! (I've tried 9 different geos. All with a similar result. AU. NZ. SE. DE. DK. NO. CA. MY. SG.) That's the predicament I feel I'm in.

Over the past week, I'm bidding .13 CPC but receiving far less impressions now. The payout of the offer is around $2.40.

I've optimised campaigns via placements and categories. I've created separate campaigns from profitable placements and categories while retaining a general campaign to mine further profits (where possible).

Today I emailed my AM to see if she could share the highest bid to gain more traffic. Hopefully, she can shed more light - but it seems if the CPC is high I'd have to weigh the probability of me generating a profit through razor sharp campaign optimisation.

As I'm somewhat of a newbie, I'm still learning about optimisation. So for now, I feel the odds aren't stacked in my favour. Leading me to question if I should be seeking another traffic source.

This is exactly why you need to stick with a network. There are a lot of nuances with each and every network and learning it is really important. This is what will give you an edge. It takes time and money to figure these things out...and you won;t learn it after 10 or 20 campaigns. It takes dozens of campaigns and paying close attention to what affects what.

One thing I can tell you is that campaigns on Leadbolt tend to fade after a few days. Their system seems to favor new campaigns.

Solution?
- Create new campaigns daily (same campaign - new tracking link, new campaign name, different ads)
- Have more than one account !?

I can ASSURE you that if you are close to profit on a $2.40 payout and paying 0.13 CPC you are on a shit hot offer. There are a lot of other things you can improve and optimize as well

Thanks deondup! That's the issue which has been bothering me. Having spent money already, I was thinking by going to a new source, I'd have to start from square one.

I'll give your suggestions ago to see if I generate traffic.

Any others would be greatly appreciated!

You really need to try things for yourself. If you have a campaign like that its the perfect opportunity to experiment. Make 10 copies/campaigns and change things up...then pay close attention to what's happening. In time you will see that some things get you more traffic than others.

Cheers deondup. I'm seeing traffic flow again for 2 campaigns I duplicated. There was a slight paradigm shift for me after reading your reply (which I'm grateful for). While I was focused on making campaigns profitable, it's now coupled with continual testing to learn the traffic source better. I see there's more to test than just trying to increase your bid for more traffic!
